This metal detector appears to have great potential, especially for it's entry level price. I bought it as a replacement for an earlier Garret detector I had a few years ago. I've tried it out for a few hours in my back yard and at a couple of parks with some cousins and a nephew. Because of it's advanced technology it will take me many more hours to become proficient with it. I have the next couple of months to practice in Colorado and I will add more after some more experience. We did find a number of coins while attempting to operate the detector. Unfortunately, we also found a number of bottle tops and pull tabs while learning how to discriminate the junk.Customer Review: Ace 250 appears to be great equipment!

I am a first time user of any metal detecting device. First purchase, the Garrett Ace 250, seems to be a good choice. First outing in my own yard I found my first coin and other objects, including a small pair of surgical shears which must be very old. Detector shows a lot of promise as it detects the smallest piece of metal when the settings are high, and, it can pin-point the location very easily. From a novice viewpoint, this tool is very worthy and I cannot wait to get out there somewhere else and find some more things. I highly recommend this item especially for the new explorer.Customer Review: A great coinshooter...

I've had a great time with this detector - I won't go into the good/bad of it since so many other reviews cover that so well. My personal experience of the 250 is that it is worth every penny I paid and that it does what I ask it to do. My only two small gripes are the volume (lack of volume control) and that the shaft is a bit wobbly. Both issues are easily dealt with and I use this as one of my two primary detectors. It is a GREAT metal detector for the price. It has many features that are on much more expensive models, coin ID and depth of target are just two of them. The ACE 250 is very easy to use because of factory set controls, plus ease of custom setting. It is light weight , but well thought out and made.It has five modes of operation, all metal,jewelry,custom,relics, and coin. Battery life is from 20 to 40 hours from four AA's. Big bang for the bucks. Amazon had the better price then anyone else. I'm well pleased.Customer Review: Learn it -

The only thing I can say is do not get frustrated - you need to learn the unit and the more you use it the more you will find.
Just when I was ready to get rid of it I called Garrett and spoke to Sue. She gave me a couple of pointers and the next time out I started finding coins, and believe it or not I found a pipe. No not a water pipe - a smoking pipe.
Lots of cool things out there, just learn the tool and you will be really happy. I love mine and use it everyday.
