Customer Review: Nice product, but some points to consider... Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this phone and two expansion handsets. In the last three weeks, I have not had the problems with interference which other reviewers complain of, but every situation is unique. I was having some problems with other cordless phones because of kitchen appliances and lights that caused interference on the older bands. I find the handsets in both colors very ergonomic and attractive, and the extra features like polyphonic ring tones and remote access to the answering machine from expansion handsets are great.
A couple of concerns I do have with this phone:
There is no way to wall mount either the base station or the expansion handsets. If you don't have a piece of furniture that's next to the phone jack, don't bother. I don't know why it would have been so difficult to put a mounting bracket for a wall jack on the very slim base station. (None of the pictures on the box show the back or mention this, so buyer beware!)
Phantom handsets - has anybody else had this problem? I bought expansion handsets for my phone about a week apart each, and each time I registered a new handset, it was one number up from what it ought to have been. (I registered the second handset and it showed it was handset 3, the third, 4, etc.) I obviously de-registered everything each time, but I would like to know what is causing it. (I'm following the directions in the manual precisely.)
Customer Review: very nice, cool features Summary: 4 Stars
I bought the phone and two handsets. It is easy to install, multi-language, polyphonic tones. You can personalize each handset, so you know which one goes where. The display letters and numbers sizes are comfortable and easy to read. Date and time will automatically adjust if you are subscribed to caller ID.
It is very stylish, different, slim and light. The intercom feature has stopped the yelling from one room to the other. Call quality is very good, and volume is rather high (Volume 1 or 2 is perfect). The speaker volume is good too.
Editting the numbers in the memory is a little tricky, nothing major though. Overall, the menu is user friendly.
The answering system is easy to use, I haven't had the problems mentioned in another review.
It may not be a good idea to buy for a house with little kids, because it is very light and can easily be pushed over. Only grownups in my house, and I am really happy with the purchase.
Customer Review: Light weight, full features Summary: 4 Stars
Well designed, lightweight full featured phone. I wish the extension phones were as readily available as the base unit.
Customer Review: Annoying Summary: 2 Stars
I got this phone because of its looks. Shallow, I know. I thought that a phone is a phone.. how can you mess that up? I've learned my lesson.
This phone does make and receive calls without problems. That is the main positive feature. I haven't had issues with volume, but I have excellent hearing and just came off the worst cell phone on the planet. Anything would have been a step up.
The message system is where I have problems. When I got my first voice message, the answering machine would not delete it. The way to delete a message is simple in theory: push the "delete" button while the message is playing. When that didn't work, I tried to return it, but the store where I bought it wouldn't accept an opened item. I called the number in the product manual, thinking that GE is a good company and will stand by its products. It turns out that GE does not directly provide support for their products, and the company that handles technical support for this product was not helpful. They told me to unplug it and replace the batteries. That did not work. Then they told me to mail it to Texas, at my expense, where their technicians would try to fix it and send it back. If I got it back and it still didn't work, I could send it back to them (again, at my expense), and they might be able to send me a refurbished model as a replacement. That seemed like a lot of trouble when they couldn't even guarantee that I'd end up with a properly functioning model.
I figured out that you can listen to messages through the handset and delete messages that way. So basically the base unit is useless to me, except to charge the phone.
The other annoying thing about this phone is that my handset constantly says "NEW VOICE MAIL," when I have no messages. It has said that since I got the phone.
Obviously the phone is usable. But next time I'll do my homework before I buy anything, even as trivial as a phone.
