This would be great for my brother, because for some reason he's really bad at finding words in a dictionary. Same with my friend's brother, who can't spell worth a darn.
However, for the serious Scrabble player, this probably isn't the best choice. It's based on the now-obsolete 3rd edition; the 4th edition is the latest incarnation of the Scrabble player's Bible and there are some significant differences. My favorite 2-letter "Z" word, "za," is nowhere to be found in the 3rd edition (it means pizza, by the way). Other changes, according to the back cover of the 4th edition, include "spelling variants such as colour and centre for game players in Canada." (Or U.S. players for whom it's handy :-D). It also "includes some 4,000 words not included in the previous edition."
Just thought this should be taken into consideration.

This is a very valuable product for anyone who wants to improve their Scrabble(R) game. For checking definitions (not that serious scrabblers always care about that) it is much quicker than leafing through a dictionary. The Jumble Game is particularly valuable when set at the higher level for seven letter words. However, don't buy this product UNTIL Franklin updates it with the new Scrabble word list! Scrabble (with Official Players Dictionary)
I found this electronic Dictionary helpful, but also annoying because it has not been updated to reflect the newest Official Word List (OWL2) of the Scrabble Assn. It is OK. Hopefully Franklin will update this product.

The one I ordered first this year, was defective. I got a new one, and it also does the same thing...when you hit "back", it clears your letters. I am still very unhappy with my purchase. These machines cost too much money not to work properly. The one I bought two years ago worked for a long time and I never had a moments trouble with it. I would like a new one to replace this second one. Tona Brown
