The powerful cartridge offers instant access to 2.6 million entries in German and English, including 275,000 headwords and phrases; 1,369,600 translations, inflections, grammatical entries, and phonetic spellings; and 1,000,000 advanced verb conjugations. As a result, users can write and speak effectively in either language without bungling certain verb tenses or grammar rules. The entries are culled from Pons Worterbuch für Schule und Studium, one of the most respected German-English dictionaries available.

To use the advanced verb conjugation feature, the user merely enters the verb and tense in one language (e.g., "I learn"), after which the DBD-3040 determines the correlating phrase in the other ("Ich lerne"). The device even corrects for irregular conjugations, so you don't end up with a confusing, mismatched phrase that will stop a German reader in his or her tracks. Add in a grammar guide--which offers a ton of essential information on German grammar rules--and a phonetic spell checker and you have a terrific sidekick for your German language instruction.

Travelers, meanwhile, will dig the phrase database, which includes 2,000 of the most common globe-trotting phrases. Best of all, the DBD-3040 makes learning fun, with nine interactive games that deliver a fun, systematic approach to improving your spelling and vocabulary.
