Out of 200 reviews here, at least 147 (at the time of this review) were either 4 stars or above for this nifty product. I read through the lower rated ones and here's my take, from a user's perspective:
1. You have to have realistic expectations. This costs about $150.00 (or less, if you can find a deal). For that price, it does everything I'd expect. It isn't professional quality but it is decent video.
2. This is very, very user friendly. I haven't found or used a simpler device. You can upload videos with this, play them on your tv and have fun. If you need to delete your film, it is one touch, easy to understand.
As far as I was concerned, this was simply click and play, right out of the box. It isn't complicated. Having noted that, we use this as a portable supplement to our professional camcorder. It is easy to just grab this and go and it doesn't get in the way, isn't bulky, etc. For the price, I think it is a winner!

Recent review of Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder by David Pogue in the NYTimes convinced me to overcome years of hesitation and invest in this compact, simple and utilitarian camcorder. Upon its arrival I let my grandchildren goof with it for the first 15 minutes,they were using it in 5 minutes. It didn't take me(age 72)much longer to get the hang of it.
The first real trial was a week later at a large party in a dimly lit hall where auxiliary lighting was not permitted. The Flip performed admirably and used every lumen of available light to capture several short videos from which I was able to strip individual frames on my computer and distribute them as jpegs.
The sound pickup is reasonably good and the 2x zoom works well.
Another plus is that it fits into my very small camera bag along with my digital still camera.
I'd call this unit an operational example of the KISS principle.

This camera is extremely easy to use. I took it out of the box right before a band concert as we were leaving and was able to easily record with it no problem. Getting the pictures into the computer was also very easy. I like that this camera uses AA batteries. My daughter went overseas and her friend had a camera which uses a charger. She lost the charger so she couldn't take anymore pictures. It is also handy if the battery is not charged, you can just throw in some AA batteries and record. I bought this camera on HSN. I need a camcorder that has a more powerful zoom so I sent it back. They said they never recieved it so I lost the camera and the money. I sent it priority mail so I have no "tracking on it" I would recommend if you want to buy it buy it from Amazon. I've had no problems with returns to Amazon. I bought the Samsung SC-MX20 Flash Memory from Amazon we are very happy with it! The zoom is excellent.Customer Review: sweet and simple

This little gem is great. It's simple to use, light to carry around, and the quality, while not DVD-level, is absolutely fine for our purposes. Yes, the USB connector is weird, but I have a USB hub (cheap) that I use to plug the videocamera into: problem solved.
It's possible if you have a really great video function on your digital camera that this would not worth the extra expense. But ours is the pits, and we couldn't be more pleased with the ease of use (no complaints about the software, either!) and the video quality.
I'm soooo glad to be done with the mini-DV format. Turns out our use of the videocamera (capturing crazy stuff our kids are doing, mostly) is really only in short increments, and I don't have the time to burn everything to a DVD anyway. I take a few short videos, do some minor editing, and then post them online to share with family and friends. Piece of cake.
Customer Review: Short and Simple -- I bought one and then I bought a second one

A person doesn't purchase two of the same item unless they feel they have a nice product at a fair price. This is a fun little recorder. Easy to use (even my 21 year old daughter, who hasn't figured out her Ipod yet, uses it).
You must make sure you are filming during the day or inside with the lights on. As with many camcorders, there is no light to film in the dark.
Connects easily to the computer without cords (thank goodness--no more cords). Fits easily in purse to have readily accessible.
I'm happy with the two I purchased and would recommend whole-heartedly, especially as a gift for someone you're just not sure what to get. Anyone with a computer would be able to work this and would enjoy it. I've gotten some nice quality little films and it films for about an hour. The batteries also last a long time.
No complaints at all from me!
