Customer Review: Good camera for the price. Works with Mac OS just fine.

After reading mixed reviews on the Flip's usability with Mac OS, we were skeptical about purchasing, since it was our plan to take this on vacation and dump footage onto our Mac IG Pro. We needn't have been so concerned. Upon the recommendation of others, we downloaded the Flip software BEFORE taking any footage, and we downloaded an excellent program called Visual Hub to convert the Flip files for use in iMovie. It worked without a hitch.
The Flip takes pretty good footage for the price, but if you're wanting spectacular quality, look elsewhere. After looking back at the scanty footage we have of our first child, we bought the Flip mainly for its ease of use so we can capture those moments with our kids before they're all grown up. We took it with us while hiking in Montana, and since the Flip is so small and lightweight we were able to capture video that we otherwise would not have had if we had to lug a bigger camera around. We just whipped it out, pressed record, and Ta-Da! We have a movie!
I have not seen another camera out there that compares to the Flip for the price. The Sanyo was our next "budget" option, but when we added up the price for SD cards and the like, it came to more than double the cost of the Flip. We have not regretted our purchase, and would recommend to anyone looking for an easy, inexpensive camcorder.

I love this little camera. I have 2 other camcorders and I never use them. I have to worry about charging them, bringing the bag, gear, etc. I'm terrible at it and as a result have little video of my kids, family and friends. I have captured more video in 2 months of having this camera than in 5 years of my other cameras. It's not a fancy camera. Not great for distance or fancy shots. But that's not how I use it. It does exactly what I need - saves video and sound of special occasions and candid moments. Features I love - small (fits in my purse), AA batteries (no charging, lasts a while), easy download (USB attached, prompts the software), easy to store (gives you a library format for saving files), easy to email (compresses the files so you can easily email them), good sound, and clear picture. This was clearly made with the YouTube generation in mind. I have not done much editing although I think the software it comes with is very limited. I really don't have one complaint. The only thing I would suggest for future models is to have some type of removable memory. I could see needing more than 60 minutes for vacation and not having a computer available to download. This is an awesome little camcorder, just perfect for my 13-year-old to create video projects for school. The unit is quite sturdy and has a nice tripod mount on the bottom. My only concern is with the USB flip-out connector on the side...I think if it was roughly handled, it could present a problem, but so far everything has been really durable.
The only problem we had was installing the pre-loaded software from the camera onto a Dell Inspiron computer running Vista. There was no problem installing it on a system running Windows XP, but the Vista computer was fussy.
We contacted Pure Digital on-line and, true to their word, they replied within 24 hours. After requesting specific information about both the camcorder and computer (they graciously provided step-by-step instructions on how to locate both), they emailed a link with a software upgrade for the Vista system.
Now, the camcorder works great on both computers. Its compact size and truly one-touch ease-of-use makes it kid-friendly with good quality. The built-in editing software was so easy to use that my 13-year-old never had to ask me for help once!
I highly recommend this unit. Good job, Pure Digital! A winning product!

I have owned 2-3 video cameras in my life---from old school vhs to the sony one that records on dvd. Too many wires and or other drama to download the video--NOT enough patience. To top it off, if I am going t spend time shooting anything, I prefer my Nikon DSRL. Basically I like photography best.
However, I saw this product and some things about it got me intrigued: 1) I liked the design style, compactness (just regular old batteries too) and especially the built in usb for connection. 2) Living in a modern world demands owning a video camera too. You never know when you will be unlawfully pulled over or want to shoot footage for TMZ (smile). I wanted a quick way to capture video when a photograph just wont due
Over thanksgiving I filmed my Mom and Pop as they talked about how they met, their kids etc. Camera $150 (very reasonable); DOWNLOAD FOR DUMMIES (very easy and fast); video footage of Mom and Dad---PRICELESS
All thumbs up from me so far. So, go ahead and treat yourself!

I bought this camera for it's small size, ease of use, and uncomplicated operation. I've been very pleased with all three. What has surprised me are the quality of the sound and clarity of the picture. And it's so simple! I pull it out of my pocket, turn it on, and start shooting.
Since it's digital, I'm not worrying about wasting tape space for shots that may not make the cut. I'm also learning that 60 minutes is a long time to fill with video.
The picture is pretty good when you connect it to the TV, but it's fantastic after you've loaded videos onto the computer and burn them onto a DVD. And again, a surprise is the sound quality. I filmed my wife and a friend playing a string duet and they sound great. Dialogue is clear.
You don't even need a USB cable. I just sat down to transfer some videos to the computer and was looking for the cable! Duh!
I'd recommend it to anybody that wants to capture video who wants something VERY portable and Very easy to use.
