I bought this video camera for my wife as she is a kindergarten teacher and likes to take videos of her class. She also likes to video the soccer games and the Tai Kwon Do with our two boys. She loves the camera and has been taking it everywhere and has been sending video clips to the grandparents.
She is not very technical, but was able to upload all the videos to friends and family without my help. One day I was running to a conference and I wanted to video the speaker, so I grabbed this flip video camera to take with me. I didn't have time to charge my JVC high end camera, and didn't want to have to deal with finding a new tape and making sure I had my carry case.
Well, I was blown away! This camera is at least as good as the JVC video camera I bought for almost $1K a few years ago. It doesn't require you to change a tape, you don't need to charge it with a special charger, you don't need a whole carrying case, and best of all it is high quality. It has zoom capabilities, great sound, ability to playback what you taped and also delete what you don't like. Plus it has a full hour that you can record! It is the best consumer electronic product I have purchased in years.
You don't have to worry about it being stolen, it is as good, if not better than any other out on the market, it can fit in your pocket, and it so simple to use that anyone can use it. I immediately came onto Amazon and ordered one for each of the grandparents, one for each of the uncles and aunts and even got one for a co-worker.
It is by far the best gift for someone that has everything. They will love this. And with the YouTube generation and so many people with high speed internet today, it is so easy to share what you video.
I carry this camera with me as much, if not more than my iPod. I end up showing it to everyone I meet and my wife says I should get a job with this company. I don't know much about them, but they seem to be a great business and I actually did look on the stock market to see if they were public because I wanted to invest. I don't know much about investing, but I do know about video cameras, and I highly recommend this camera!

I purchased a Flip Ultra video cam (and the hard case, the tripod and the mounting unit)for a friend as a graduation gift. They just got back from a Caribbean cruise...his parents' gift to him...and the kid had gotten some fabulous videos of the trip. He loves it. I also bought one for my son and he loves it as well and takes it everywhere. How often have you been somewhere, seen something and wished you had a way to capture it to enjoy at a later time, especially without having to haul out your regular sized video cam. This little video camera can be whipped out any time and gives you the chance to capture that sunset, or that cute little kid, or whatever. You can then view it immediately on the camera but it's great to view it on your tv or pc later. Then when you get 60 minutes worth of recording, just dump it onto your pc and it frees up 60 new minutes for you. One thing we had to figure out...the up & down arrows around the red "record" button have TWO functions. If you're RECORDING, they are the zoom in & out keys...but when you're VIEWING, they serve as the volume keys. We've found that even if you forget to turn it up when recording, it still captures the sound as if it WERE turned up. We discovered this dual function when my son first recorded something and then when he wanted to review it real quick, it had no sound so we initially thought it was a visual camera only without any audio. But that's the deal, just touch the up-arrow key to get the volume up when you view what you've recorded. Obviously it won't be REAL loud when you do the playback... UNTIL you do playback on your tv or pc...but the audio is definitely captured. I just wanted to mention that because we didn't realize it until we...as the usual last resort...referred to the directons in the manual! Ha! You'll enjoy this thing for sure! And Amazon has the best price from the investigating I did. This review probably sounds like I work for the Ultra Flip people or Amazon...I assure you I don't. It's just such a great little device to have and makes a wonderful gift for anyone! And the fact it comes in a choice of colors just adds to the fun.Customer Review: Great toy and it's idiot-proof!

I am a reluctant gadget lover. I enjoy technology that makes my life simpler and gadgets that look cool, are highly portable and deliver on the "simplify my life" philosophy. And I am reasonably tech-savvy. I was quick to embrace digital cameras and digital photography. I take hundreds of pictures a month and catalog them carefully. However, I have never gotten into video - camcorders are too bulky and complicated for me. My husband has some cool Sony camcorder that supposedly does great things but I have never been tempted to use it once. But I love the idea of video. So, after reading all of the reviews of the Flip Video Ultra here and elsewhere, I decided that this company may have accomplished what I have been looking for in a video recorder. I just got my Flip yesterday and it is EVERYTHING I had hoped for and more!
I bought the Orange Flip - it's compact, light and pretty! I took a few test videos and I thought the quality was impressive for the price of the device. It couldn't have been easier to download the videos to my laptop and e-mailing the clips was a snap. I hate reading manuals and generally require a little hand-holding when it comes to learning the ins-and-outs on operating a new gadget but this is idiot-proof! No instructions necessary! A minute spent with the Quick Start Guide included with the recorder was all I needed. They even include 2 AA batteries in the package so you are good to go in less than 5 minutes. Less than 10 minutes after I opened the package, I had already e-mailed a wonderful 30 second clip of my daughter singing a nursery rhyme to her grandparents. Yay!
The only downside to the Flip is the lack of SD card expansion but I can't imagine shooting more than 60-80 minutes of video with it at a time. I am so thrilled with this purchase and I think I'm going to buy a couple more as Christmas gifts.

It's been a while since I wrote a review, but the simplicity and practicality of this product compels me to write one. I LOVE this product. I'm a parent of two hyper active young boys (5 and 2)and have scores of "tapes" of them using my old camcorder (another great product, but woefully short on sharing capabilities) collecting dust. The lack of sharing made us stop recording memories.
I've always been a late adopter and discovering the Flip is no exception, but since discovering this product, my wife and I have taken several videos, uploaded them to Facebook and shared them with very happy and thankful grandparents.
The device comes bundled with a USB adapter making it easy to transfer pictures to the computer. It also comes with a cable to connect to the TV. When you first plug the Flip (via the USB adapter) it asks you to download the FlipShare software (and upgrade to the new version, which you should do). The software automatically opens up when you connect the Flip to the computer and categorizes your videos. Transferring and uploading is a snap for subsequent use.
The one negative is that there isn't a direct upload possible to Facebook (MySpace, AOL and YouTube are the default options). However, as your videos are on the computer, just Choose "Other" in the upload options. Flip creates a directory of the videos on your desktop and you can upload that to Facebook.
I'm sure the HD is a superior product (and costlier) as well, but the videos are fine and I would highly recommend this product.

I am a technology integration specialist in eight schools, grades K - 12. I had heard about this camera from a colleague in another district. After reading reviews and checking the different Flip cameras that are available I chose this model because it can use rechargeable AA batteries (the new Mino had a rechargeable battery, but once it "dies" the Mino must be returned to the factory for replacement).
I opened the box the minute I received it from the UPS delivery guy and had a video created, edited and sent via e-mail to family members in less than 30 minutes (the hardest part for me was finding and opening the battery compartment.)
You won't get the quality of audio and video that you would get with an expensive video camera, but for simple, quick, easy to make video it is a great little camera. And, if you are going to post video online or e-mail it, you don't want large screen quality anyway.
As I've seen in other reviews, I would definitely purchase a USB connecting cable to attach it to the USB port. I happened to already have one and it was very handy to have with my laptop since the USB ports are not in convenient locations and are shared by my wireless mouse and other peripherals so plugging it in would have required removal of other USB devices if I hadn't had the cable.
I love it! Cute, easy to carry along, and not expensive. I can't wait to use it in the classroom with teachers and kids!
