I love this Flip HD. I've tried many other camcorders (DXG, Samsung, Kodak, Sanyo, Panasonic) in this same category and NONE have compared to the video quality of the Flip HD. Each time I tested a different camcorder, I made sure I did it in the evening with the lights on in my livingroom. Each time, the others were dark, grainy and had difficulty adjusting to the lamps - took several seconds to focus again. The Flip HD had no issues, and provided clear and bright video. I should mention that my livingroom is painted a rose color with burgundy furniture, so I feel this was a true test of video quality. By the way, the reason I kept trying other camcorders was that the FlipHD is video only, whereas the others took photos too. However, it wasn't worth the compromise. Besides, I can always create photos with the FlipShare software that's built into the unit.
As far as the battery, I too had the problem with the battery pack erroring out when charging. So, I got rechargeable batteries to use and have had no issues. I recently used this to record my grandson's first birthday. I was able to capture all the important moments of the day on a single charge.
Bottom line is that I am very pleased with this camcorder and recommend it highly.

We have a daughter who is now 15 months old, and I've had a Mini-DV based Sony camera for a few years, which produces great quality standard definition video, but its size, use of tapes, and comparitive difficulty of exporting video causes it to be left in its case most of the time. As a result, we haven't really caputured video of our daughter in her early stages, other than the major moments.
The FlipHD camcorder has changed all of this. We just leave it sitting on our kitchen table, and whenever she starts doing something funny, cute, etc... I just pick up the Flip and start filming. We've already capture countless moments that we would have missed with the standard, tape-based camcorder.
As for the video quality, the more light, the better, but even in low light, the video still looks great in HD. My only recommendation is to not use the zoom, as it is purely digital, and therefore affects the quality of the video.
Moving video to your computer is as easy as plugging in the USB cable. It comes pre-loaded with some basic editing software that allows you to piece clips together into movies, add music, etc..., or you can just access the camera like a disk drive.
For $160, this is unbeatable.

I've been using this camera for about a month now and really like it! We used it Memorial Day Weekend and are currently on a 3 week vacation to the Southwest United States. It is very easy to carry in my pocket. When I get home each afternoon I flip out the USB and connect it to my laptop. Within a few minutes all of my clips for the day are loaded on to my laptop and from there I have sent the movies I've made via the Flip Website and email. I haven't tried uploading to Facebook yet, but I'm sure I will soon. The HD is great, the sound quality of the built in microphone is better than I expected. One downside is if I walk while I record there is a definite video shake. It works great when standing still. Also, it would be great to have a battery life indicator. I am not using the re-chargeable batteries that were included with the camera. I haven't had to change my "AA" batteries yet, though, so I am very happy with that. Overall I rate this product as excellent. It is easy and fun to use and I would recommend to anyone that doesn't need to record an hour + long event. For those fun clips here and and there that are no longer than a few minutes (i.e. everyday life on vacation or around home)it is GREAT!Customer Review: Awesome little camcorder

If you are looking to buy a drop-dead simple digital camcorder that even your grandmother can use, look no further. I researched a number of camcorders before settling on this one even though it doesn't have a great zoom and other fancy bells and whistles. This device does just one thing - records HD video - and does it very well indeed. Another greatly useful feature is that it accepts standard AA batteries. This means you don't have to lug an extra battery pack and/or a charger like for the other flip models.
Pros:
- Excellent video quality.
- Easy to store and carry (fits nicely in your pocket - it's just slightly thicker and longer than your average cell phone).
- Light weight
- Minimalist controls. You can't go wrong with them.
- Easy to connect to your PC via the inbuilt USB plug.
- Fits on a standard tripod to get steady shake free video.
- Easy to transfer videos to your windows PC or mac.
- Can take standard AA batteries.
Cons:
- The battery life isn't that great.
- The sound quality is a little lukewarm and the microphone isn't sensitive enough.
- No optical zoom. The 2x digital zoom is not very good.

Just received this product a little over a week ago (June 22, 2010). Went to San Diego for a few days and took this new toy with me. I usually take a digital camcorder, but wanted something compact that would give me a quality picture. Well to my surprise, this is a neat camera. With packaged software built in for downloads to your computer, and some video editing software as well. You are now on your way to entering the world of FLIP. It's simply amazing how they got all those goodies in that small of a camera. I consider the picture quality very good. I am surprised. While it won't rival the super high end HD Camcorders, it sure comes close. My beach pictures of bright light, sun and sand, were unbelievable. I have to say, what you see is what you get. That's pretty much it in a nut shell. There are a ton of reviews and the pros outweigh the cons by a long shot. This camera is compact enough to carry in purse or pocket, or course there may be those who want something smaller. This camera also requires somewhat of a steady hand. Indoor or outdoor exposure, and lighting is automatic and it's a joy to use. Long story short, for the price, the quality, you can't miss.
