I purchased my first Flip Camcorder about a year and a half ago when I was planning my trip to Ireland. I bought a 60 minute basic Flip and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to use and the great quality of the video. The only downside I saw with the original was the fact that it was only 60 minutes. Enter the new Flip UltraHD Camcorder which has a 120 minute capability. When I first received it, I couldn't wait to try it out. The quality of the video is beautiful and the HD capability really makes a huge difference in my pictures. I love the fact that the camera is smaller than my original camera and that I know can film up to 120 minutes. When I took the camera to Ireland, I found that a 60 minute recording just couldn't be used for a day's worth of sightseeing. I found myself taking short snippets, afraid that I would use up the entire capability until I was able to get back to the hotel and offload the recording. The short vignettes really came across choppy and I was yearning for a larger capacity. This 120 minute model, besides having better resolution, allows me the ability to take the camera with me full day to record. I haven't seen the problem with battery life yet (as I have seen others comment on), so I can't say anything negative. I just love my new Flip and I highly recommend it for any one planning to take a vacation this year. It fits neatly into my pocket and has the capacity and quality that I am looking for!Customer Review: Great Mini Camcorder

I purchased both the Mino HD and the Ultra HD to test and see which FLIP would be my camcorder of choice. What I liked about both camcorders was the size and how easy both were to operate, the clarity was excellent and the software is great and simple to use. After few uses of both camcorders I choose the Ultra HD and returned the Mino HD for the following reasons:
The batteries. When the batteries ran low on the Mino HD I had no choice but to stop taping and wait awhile for the camcorder to recharge which is a bummer if you are recording an important event. Since the batteries are "built in" there is no back up. With the Ultra HD the rechargeable battery can be temporarily replaced with regular 'AA' batteries to complete your recording.
The Screen. The Ultra HD has a 2" screen and the Mino HD screen 1.5". Doesn't sound like much but it sure is a big difference.
Time: The ultra HD has 120 mins while the Mino has 60 mins. Even though the Mino HD has now introduced the new 120 minutes recorder I still rather the Ultra HD because of back up charging with the 'AA' batteries.
My only dislike on these camcorder is the use of the USB plug into the computer. These camcorders depite their sizes do tend to "bow" slightly (if not placed on a flat surface) while charging or dowloading videos, which in time could cause damage to your camcorders and USB drive in your computer. It is best to buy the USB cables. Also there is no pause button which would have been perfect.
Overall the Flip Ultra HD is my favorite when taping my kids at their after school activities. I highly recommend this item.

Here's a great Christmas present for your spouse! It is light, portable, easy-to-use, easy-to-understand and, most importantly, fun. The Flip UltraHD fits perfectly in a purse or a pocket and delivers quality HD video at a great value.
Amazon's special holiday offer included two accessories with the purchase of a Flip UltraHD Camcorder, so I chose the Flip Tripod for Flip Ultra and Mino Camcorders and the Flip Video Power Adapter.
I purchased this for my wife's Christmas present (she wanted to upgrade from her four-year old digital camera) but the Flip UltraHD never touched wrapping paper. Instead, my wife is running around the house recording videos of our sons - decorating the Christmas tree, wearing reindeer antler hats, in the pool at their YMCA swim class, and practicing their songs for the school Christmas program.
The pre-installed FlipShare software is intuitive, making file organization and photo sharing simple. My wife enjoys sending videos to friends and uploading them on Facebook.
In summary, the Flip UltraHD is a fun, easy-to-use camcorder - and a great value. I highly recommend this as a Christmas, birthday or anniversary present for your spouse, especially if you have a vacation planned in 2010.

This is what I bought for my husband for Father's Day 2009. Until then, our family videos were taken with either our clunky 10-year-old video camera or his cell phone, both of which produced rather grainy video. It's been nothing short of a heartbreak to see so many treasured moments captured on video that's less than memorable. So when I saw the Flip UltraHD camcorder on sale on Amazon, I decided it was time to upgrade.
Boy, am I glad I did! We love everything about this camera, from its recycling-friendly packaging (a heavy paper box reminiscent of that used for Apple's iPods) to its ease of setup. Within moments of opening it, my husband had the camera up and running as we captured our son's antics on video. Transferring video to our computer (running Windows XP) was a breeze, and we were both quite impressed with the quality of the picture.
I noted that one disappointed reviewer said he charged his camera for 21 hours but it never worked. I'm not sure why that was necessary: the rechargeable battery pack that shipped with ours was fully charged so getting it to run was a matter of putting the batteries in. Perhaps the other reviewer left that step out???
Anyway, the size of this thing is a bit heftier than my iPhone but still small enough to tuck into a shirt pocket. It's a bit too bulky for pants pockets, though, so like a lot of my husband's other gadgets this one will probably wind up going in my purse. Not a big deal: it's light and small, and considering the excellent video quality I am sure we'll never leave home without it.
Customer Review: My Flip Video UltraHD Flips Me Out!!!

The Flip HDUltra does a great job of capturing those family moments. The picture quality is great in high light, but low light offers quality similar to a vhs tape. The color quality is great and looks good in incandescent light but is very bluish under some flourescent lamps. Also the widescreen presentation is great for those with LCD/LED/Plasma TVs. The image seems stable most of the time, but the unit does come with a tripod attachment if you need help with camera shake. Flip makes a tripod for the unit, but I haven't used it.
I find the audio to be superb in the recordings. The mic is quite sensitive and can pick up noises from the operator though. The audio is rich and feels like it has a good dimension.
The software that comes with the camera does a lot of nice things like making movies or movie montages with background music. This feature is nice for making a video postcard to send to family and friends. You also have the option of uploading your videos to a secure viewing site for family and friends, we use this feature a lot.
The interface with the camera is simple and intuitive, but it offers few features to make adjustments. Also, the 2 hour recording time is fine for most situations. I wish it had a larger storage capacity though (4 hours would be ideal). Having the camera charge via the USB connection is a great idea in addition to using it to download your videos.
All said, this is a great entry level camera that will give you the results you want. I highly recommend this camera.
