I have had this little camcorder for a few months now and I am a very satisfied customer. At one point my camera would not turn on or charge when I plugged it into the computer. I did some research online and discovered that I just had to pull off the cover and push one of those tiny reset buttons with a paperclip and it came right back to life.
I am a military mom of three and we have always lived far away from family. Being able to share short videos of important and entertaining family moments has added a more fun and meaningful element to the online updates and photo sharing I was previously doing. Now that my whole family is on Facebook, I can upload clips within seconds and my whole family can watch. I wish I had purchased this camcorder sooner. I agonized over this purchase because I get bogged down sometimes when I have too many options and a lot of technical details to consider. Another factor that delayed my purchase was the price. We don't have a lot of disposable income so I was hesitant to spend so much on one gadget. I'm so glad I finally took the plunge and just bought this reputable version because I instinctively knew I would use it a lot and would not be bothered by any small glitches because I am too much of an amateur to notice. This camcorder is great quality and has a lot of value for money.
I recommend this product for all parents so that they can record and share milestone moments. It is dummy proof and can serve as a portable backup for those who also have larger, wizbang cameras. My children love watching footage of themselves so I wish this had been available when they were babies. This camera is so simple that my children use it more than I do to record their little video game victories and upload the footage to Youtube. If you think you will probably use a camcorder like this but you are having a hard time deciding on this purchase, just do it! You will not regret it.

The Flip UltraHD is one of best point and shoot camcorder I have ever seen. I got it for my recent birthday.

I have had no troubles with this camcorder yet. I was surpised when I was told when my grandmother told me she got a 3 yr extended warranty. For those of you with battery issues: USE DOUBLE A'S! Plus you don't have to use the software. I am overall satisfied with this cam. If you want a camcorder to give to your kids, check out the Flip video series (specifically this one), NOT those stupid built-for-children camcorders.
PRICE FOR RETAIL: Cheapest I found was $145, highest $199.99. Can find cheaper on eBay. Price: 5/5
QUALITY: Better than some camcorders. Good audio and video. 5/5

BATTERIES AND BATTERY COVER:: Rechargeable battery pack [charge in computer or Flip power adapter] OR AA batteries [can't use camcorder to charge]. The battery cover is not one that has to be replaced by duct tape.
OVERALL: I rate this 5/5. This is a VERY good camcorder, and I am satisfied with it.
NOTE TO THE MANY PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY NEED TO USE THE BATTERY PACK AND SAY THEY CAN'T USE IT: Try using AA batteries.

I had this little Flip UltraHD Camcorder out of the box and working in under 3 minutes. I was ecstatic! I didn't need to read the instructions, it was that user friendly. Flip makes it such a breeze to do this. It literally turns on and is ready to use in just 2 SECONDS! Reviewing is just as fast and so is the connection to the computer. I love being able to have things happen in 2 seconds. Downloading speeds are very acceptible. The size and weight is fantastic since it fits in my small purse or back pocket of my jeans. I bring it along with me the way I do my cellphone, it's that valuable for documenting life. Another impressive feature is the camcorder's ability to film in low light levels. Results have been incredible for me. Tripoding it is also a cinch.
I use this camcorder every day, documenting my special needs child as she goes through various tasks with speech, physical and occupational therapists, vision and home school teachers, for my website [...] which shows parents of special needs children what they can do with their child to help them develop. Video is everything in this scenario! This means that I have to be able to quickly turn on the camcorder, start filming immediately and have ease of downloading to my computer so I can upload to my site. It is very easy to review video and make decisions on the fly about re-filming a lesson.
Special Note: We purchased a Flip UltraHD (9/20/9) that had some weird sound issues after a day of filming. We tried to figure out the problem and ultimately wrote in to Amazon Cust Serv and explained the issue. This was at midnight. By 6AM they wrote back and stated that a 2nd camcorder was already being shipped to us with instructions for mailing back the first one. WOW! We were so impressed and this 2nd camera has operated flawlessly. What a super deal! Thanks Flip! --and thanks Amazon!

I film weddings professionally so I own several video cameras. All of my professional cameras still use tape and are too bulky for capturing quick home movies. Since the birth of my son I've been eyeing a small, solid state based camera. The Flip UltraHD seemed to be the closest fit for what I was looking for. The Flip series follow the Apple way of design. That is to eliminate things that may otherwise get in the way of a positive user experience. To make something that you just want to pick up and use without reading a manual. You won't find any controls for adjusting exposure or audio levels which can be somewhat annoying for someone such as myself. Therefore things like backlighting and clipping audio can be a problem. Camera shakiness is a problem especially outdoors since the UltraHD has a fixed 2.4 f-stop lens and no ND filter. The UltraHD compensates for this by boosting the shutter speed. Outdoor footage on a bright sunny day can easily take on a 'Saving Private Ryan' look if you're not careful. Also the lack of a wider angle lens makes it more difficult to use in tight locations. However I forgive the limitations of the UltraHD for it's sheer simplicity. I used it in conjunction with a Canon Powershot for a recent family vacation. I incorporated both video and stills and created a short home movie. It turned out great with the aid of iMovie 09. I don't use iMovie 09 for my business but just like the UltraHD it's easy and fun to use. Importing video can be a concern if you're using older (slower) hardware. For iMovie users I recommend downconverting the footage to 960x540. You lose little in quality and the footage is much easier to edit. To sum it up: If you can overlook the short comings of the UltraHD then you'll truly enjoy using it. I originally bought this camera for my business as a real estate agent and thought I'd use it for sending a first "walk through" of homes for out of town clients and for creating virtual tours of my listings. I have used it for so much more! I was invited to a friend's house for a wine and fondue party and had just got my camera that weekend. I went around her home video taping the various fondue stations, wine bar and the awesome dessert table. Then I caught a few conversations of friends commenting on how nicely the party turned out. When I got home I created a thank you card with the FlipShare software that included the video clip of her party - and she was so excited to see and hear things that as a hostess she may have missed out on.
I send alot of e-mails of family members, partcularly the children - to out of state relatives. What a great way to stay in touch. I have received so many e-mails of appreciation for the video clips. My mom recently had a stroke, and we've video taped some of her rehab, and it comforts her family to see that she is making progress every week!
You will find this camera your "go to" camera for everything. I love the small size - it fits conveniently in my purse or a pocket. I always have it with me. Although I purchased the tripod - I find that the camera will sit upright on a table or desk by itself, too. I do recommend using a firm surface or wall to stabalize your hand and thus the quality of your video - unless of course, you are using your tripod.
E-mailing clips was so simple - and I am amazed at the size of video clips that can be sent. It's practically a one button operation!
I would recommend this camera to anyone looking for a simple way to stay in touch with family and friends. Great camera for an awesome price!
