Customer Review: This Thing is a Flippin Digital Video Camera

First let me say that I am shocked at the quality. I remember years ago when a local Hi Fi top end store introduced digital high end video cameras. The owner had just returned from a trip to Florida's Disney World, plugged the unit right into a TV and I was blown away with the quality of the picture. I know things keep getting better, smaller, cheaper, faster, etc. in the digital world, and this Flip Ultra is no exception. For those who are using it and playing the video back just on the low res monitor screen, like I was, the immediate reaction was "What the hay, so what's the big deal"? But then, when you run it through your TV, you will be shocked. So when you see the videos that are taken with this camera, and then added to the Amazon reviews, keep that in mind; not that I need to apologize for the quality of the videos you are seeing, but just wait until you plug it into a TV.
Another incredible thing is that this video cam comes with a 2.4 lense, which means it can handle low light conditions with a capital C. Upon getting the Flip Ultra, I immediately put fresh batteries in it, and went for a walk around the outside of the house. I figured let's give it ideal, full light conditions to see what it is capable of. Well it took great outside videos. What I was shocked about is when I entered the house, with the camera still running, and pointed it to a dark couch, and I mean a dark couch, with nothing more than daylight that wasn't even shining in the window, that was 20 feet away and the auto dimming focus instantly changed the dark green couch into something that looked like it was being illuminated with a light kit. You could see it change right on the LCD on the back. It took about a half of a second to adjust. I was holding the camera away from my face, staring at the dark couch, and then staring at the brightly lit LCD window, and couldn't figure out where all of the light was coming from. So you could go into a dimly lit bar, or anywhere for that matter, that would have a minimum amount of light, or even some light bulbs on in the room, and have all the light you need.
The Flip is so easy to use, you could spend about 60 seconds in the instruction manual and know everything. Intuitive is the word I am searching for here. As others have mentioned the big start and go button seems to be a little stubborn, although it works reliably, it's not an instant touch, one-two button.
I came this close to buying another one of these after using it for about an hour. Something that produces this kind of quality, for this kind of money doesn't come along every day. Notice the black one, with the same 30 minute record time is going for twice the price of this white one. I think Amazon got a deal on buying a zillion white ones, and is passing the savings onto the Amazon community.
This thing has over 1400 reviews, and is currently rated as the number 1 in its category. With the full description in the ad listing, and all the thorough reviews written on it, I figured you didn't need another person telling you the features. Instead I wanted to share with you the superb quality, and incredible low light capacity. I still can't figure out where this camera is getting all the light from in such a dimly lit room. Oh well, I guess some things are better enjoyed, than understood. Highly recommended. Now the question is do I get another one to keep in the car???
