I purchased a Flip Video camcorder for a recent trip to the Amazon. I didn't want to take an expensive camcorder and, frankly, didn't have the luggage space. I kept the Flip in my pocket like a cell phone for the entire trip. It was so easy to just pull out of my pocket and begin filming, I ended up using it constantly. Not only is it brain-dead easy to use, the image quality is fantastic. And so is the download process. You just plug it into the USB port and the software launches. I was burning DVDs with Windows' built-in media tools in minutes. No need for manuals; the software is intuitive. I agree with other reviewers who criticize the record button -- you sometimes have to push it hard -- Flip needs to redesign this. And the device should offer a removable SD card instead of the fixed built-in storage. For the price, portability (this device could live in your pocket or purse) and ease of use, this camcorder will revolutionize the way you shoot video.Customer Review: Incredible!

But beyond the hardware, the software is great! Granted I have only had the Flip Ultra for a day, but I had a chance to play with the software that comes preloaded on the camera. The ability to take stills out of the video is very practical. I don't imagine I will carry my digital camera with me when I go out with friends, instead I will take this. And I will record a 5 second clip and pull a still from that. Presto! I have a picture. The other thing that amazed me about the software was the ability to make a movie. Somehow the software knows just what to do. You can pick any number of clips you have on your camera, pick a song from your iTunes (or anything else), and the software will coordinate the movement of the video with the music. SPECTACULAR! Granted, some videos are better than others. And your video needs to be interesting to make it really work.
I highly recommend this little guy! Affordable and FUN!!!

i purchased the flip after several reviews & recommendations from friends. i did not get this for those "important" events, i got this so i could catch the day to day things my kids do. as a stay at home mom there are so many times which i wish i had the video camera out and ready but i don't. we do have a wonderful (albeit expensive) camcorder that we use for holidays or children's events...that's for my husband...this is perfect for me. no complicated buttons, no software to deal with...plus it easily fits in a pocket or i can toss it into my diaperbag or purse for easy travel!
while the quality of this isn't fantastic it is in no way horrible...but again, i didn't get this for quality, i got this for convenience. the volume is a bit low, but i'm ok with it. the software it comes with is so simple that it definitely makes up for the 4 star clarity & sound.
i'd definitely recommend this to friends!

This is an excellent product for someone who is not altogether tech savvy. You point, shoot, and film. The directions are easy to understand, even for uploading to your hard drive. It's easy and fun to make a mix and then send by email or share publicly. Only the editing process leaves a little to be desired. You can generally only cut on a per second basis, which means you may miss the very end of a sequence or include something you don't want. But for the Flip's pricetag you can't really expect it to be state of the art.
For grandparents who live far away from their grandchildren, it's a great way to make sure the grandchildren don't forget what you look like (especially if you don't see them very often). You make little minute or two videos about something they're going to be interested in, send, and then find lots more to talk about when you're on the phone with them besides how they're doing in school.

I bought this camera last Christmas for my 13 year old son. While he has used it himself, I have found it to be so simple that I use it way more than he ever has. Push a button to turn it on, push the red botton to record, and you are off to the races. It cannot be any easier.
At first, I tried uploading my videos directly to Photobucket (photo and video sharing site), but it was painfully slow. Now I just plug the Flip into a USB port on my PC and then upload each file to YouTube or save them to a location on the PC's hard drive. Takes anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes on YouTube, depending on the length of the video. Super simple.
Great item for those who want to cut to the chase. I don't think I would've ever tried loading anything to YouTube had it not been for how easy this camcorder is to operate. It's so easy to share events and holidays with family and friends who aren't near.
