Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Fellowes Shredder Oil, 12 oz. Bottle with Extension Nozzle (35250)Customer Review: EASY TO USE & OVER OILING PROBLEM FIXED Summary: 5 Stars
I have read all the reviews & yes. I contacted Fellows & Royal they said you could use in a pinch regular vegetable cooking oil, but the main difference is there oil is much more refined & does not in any way smell like vegetable oil. So I decided to buy & see for my self. I did a side by side comparison. The cooking oil is much more brighter, heavier & has a distinctive smell. The Fellows is a much lighter oil. The Vegetable oil will go rancid & you'll start to smell it in time, many people have complained that when oiling the oil come out to fast..Here's the fix don't use a pair of scissors or a utility knife to cut the tip of the cap. Just use either a baby pin or a thumb tack to pierce the tip of the cap & then you can have control of how much oil you need to use. I used a med size baby pin & it's working great for me. FYI: If you have a Office Depot where you live. There own brand of oil is a refined soybean based. For $5.00 for a 4oz bottle the Fellows is a better buy. Not to mention the Engineer at Fellows said that poring oil on a sheet of paper is not enough lubrication & neither are the pre-soaked sheets you can buy. You need to run the machine in reverse as your poring for 10 seconds.
Customer Review: Great Protection for Your Shredder Investment Summary: 5 Stars
We only buy Fellowes shredders and have found them very reliable. I originally purchased the oil for the cutters directly from Fellowes a couple of years ago; the bottle was smaller and more expensive at the time. I was quite pleased to find this product available from Amazon at a good price and larger bottle.
I think a lot of people buy a shredder, not knowing that it does need some maintenance to keep it in top shape. Besides not overloading your shredder's capabilities or shredding material that you shouldn't, the next best thing you can do to protect your investment is to regularly lubricate the cutters. This reduces wear, noise, and can prevent the teeth from breaking.
Be sure to read the instructions for your particular shredder, however, about the type of oil to use and the frequency. You may be tempted to use other types of oil you already have around your house or WD-40 or something, but many of those things are flammable and will only serve to damage your shredder or worse.
As another reviewer said, be careful when cutting the tip on the bottle because if you make it too big, the oil will be harder to control.
Customer Review: Works great! Summary: 5 Stars
Shredders need lubrication! I found out the hard way when our Fellows shredder started acting up (not running items through, stopping, reversing, et cetera). I always thought it was a bit of bunk, needing to lubricate shredders, but it's true, they do need it.
When you think about it, paper is drying. It absorbs oil, water, etc, so when you run it through the shredder, it's going to eventually suck up any lubrication on the cutting wheels.
You can use vegetable oils, but that is so messy. This product comes in a large bottle (suitable for an office environment) with a spout that can be cut so that just the right amount comes out. And it works great, just running a small bead on the wheels.
The shredder, which was balky before, now works as God and Fellows intended. Fellows makes a superior shredder, and their oil keeps the machine in good shape.
This is a keeper and is highly recommended! Shredders are a must these days, and good ones are expensive. It's worth a little bit of money to keep it going great.
Customer Review: Fellowes Powershred Lubricant Cutter Oil Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using the same Fellowes Powershred shredder at home for several years now. It's in use every day as most of my mail goes there. Maybe I should be commenting instead on my Fellows shredder. It runs even more smoothly now than when first purchased and I attribute that to my regular use of Fellowes Phowershred Oil.
I oil the shredder every few weeks or so; the 12oz size oil may last the life of the shredder. I didn't use any oil for the first year and I noticed that I had to regularily clean out clumps of confetti cuttings that would stick to the blades - that might have been caused by shredding gummed items, envelopes, and labels, etc.
Since using the special Fellows Oil, that is specially formulated for these crosscut shredders, those problem have completely disappeared; the shredder works more efficiently and cleanly now than ever. I know that I will get the maximum life out of my shredder by continuing to use Fellows Powershred Oil.
Customer Review: Awesome! Summary: 5 Stars
Shredder works like a charm!
Make sure you get the lubricant cutter oil to keep the shredder well oiled. I am oiling the shredder after each bag filled.
I was contemplating spending less for a shredder, but I think spending a little more for a hefty well built shredder will pan out as a good long term investment.
Make sure you get a brand new sealed shredder. When I received my first one it looked like a returned box since the packaging was previously opened. I didn't want to take any chances and I was extremely disappointed that Amazon sent me a used item but the return process was a little work but easy.
Amazon please don't send out previously opened merchandise! This isn't the first time it has happened to me, but beyond that they have the best customer service.
