Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Fellowes P-57Cs, 8 Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder 3205701Customer Review: Great so far Summary: 5 Stars
We've only used this shredder a few times but the first time was to catch up on the pile of old bills waiting to be shredded since the old one burned out. It was also a Fellowes and lasted several years. I read a lot of reviews and compared prices of different brands. Things have changed! We chose this one because we felt like it was a good price for the capacity. Our old one was only a 5 page shredder so it's a step up.
The automatic feed feature is great. Our old one did not have that so the motor ran until you turned it off. That really helps extend shred time before it has to "rest". This lid is also much easier to lift off and you can tilt it back to push the contents down.
It seems every review I read talked about shredders not taking the page capacity stated. Paper comes in so many weights that's going to vary. The important thing is how easy they unjam. This one clears quickly every time by using reverse. We use the oil as recommended too. If something does happen, I feel I can count on customer service based on other reviews.
Customer Review: Great Bang for your buck Summary: 5 Stars
I had 7 years of documents/financial statements at home and wanted to get rid of them.
This little fellow did a fine job taking care of that.
A couple of points:
- The sensor was a bit annoying. A lot of the statements are folded and with the sensor on, the machine would stop a few times until I wiggled the doc. So I turned the sensor off.
- It would get hot after a few minutes of constant shredding. The first time I used it, I think I went on 10 minutes of constant shredding. It was running a bit slow, so I decided to put some oil. When I came back with the oil, it wouldn't turn on. I had to wait half an hour for it to cool down and decide to work again.
- I generally shred 2 or 3 pages together. It works perfectly. It has a hard time shredding more than that.
Overall, it's an excellent bang for your buck (if you're just shredding your personal statements). If you own a business and need to shred a lot of documents, I would recommend a more robust one.
Customer Review: I shredded 2,000 pages in 1 week!! Summary: 5 Stars
Went paperless with this product and the Fujitsu ScanSnap 510 (Awesome product too!). Scanned everything I had double sided into searchable PDFs, then shredded them with this Fellows P-57Cs shredder!
I'm not sure if you're supposed to do this, but just to give you an idea of how rugged this thing is I shredded about 2,000 pages in a week. I kept it well oiled every time I emptied the bucket. I would shred 4-5 pages at a time, and fill a bucket with 75-100 pages. I then let the shredder cool down (couple hours) and repeat.
Notes:
- Seems to do best with 4-5 pages
- It's somewhat noisy. Not real loud, but not quiet either. I kept it up on a chair (off the floor) so I wouldn't disturb the neighbors living below me. The noise/vibrations seem like they can go through the floor.
- I recommend buying the oil for it too, and use it every time you empty the bucket
- Sensor is cool and works well. My fingers are too big to go through the slot anyway though.
Customer Review: Great shredder for the price Summary: 5 Stars
It seems I go through a shredder at least once a year. Once out of the box, most seem to be flimsy and poorly made, and the steel cutters never seem to move as smoothly as they should. I actually saw this model in person, before purchasing and, since it seemed pretty sturdy, I went a head and bought it.
Went I first powered this up, I could instantly tell it was a cut above other shredders in this price range. The motor sounded powerful, and the cutters rotated quickly and smoothly, as long as you stick to the recommended number of pages in one feeding.
The only drawback, is that I wish it had a slightly wider paper feeder. At 9", it seems you have to be inordinately precise about the paper placement, to avoid jamming the pages. This is only a problem, however, if you're pushing the margin on the number of pages you shred at once.
Overall, this is a great little shredder, and the best I've ever purchased in this price range.
Customer Review: My First Shredder -- Very Satisfied Summary: 5 Stars
I spent many weeks looking for a good deal and finally settled on the P-57Cs, my first shredder. It works really well and shreds 8 lightweight sheets fine, but if the paper is a heavier weight, it bogs down or occasionally jams. After awhile, you get the hang of how much you can feed it without jamming. The shredder mechanism sits on top of a trash can and must be removed to empty. It gets a little messy (paper shreds fall on floor) while trying to shred 10 years worth of documents but it should be fine when I get into a more normal shredding pattern. I bought the oil too, but the manual says to "only use a non-aerosol vegetable oil in a long nozzle container" so you might find a better deal at your local grocery store. The manual says to run it for 5-7 minutes at a time which will fill up the basket about 1/2 to 2/3 full. Overall, after about 5 days now, I am very pleased with this shredder and am glad I didn't order the larger size, which I had also considered.
