Customer Review: Buy these first, not the regular sized ER20s!
Summary: 5 Stars

Yeah, I bought both sizes--the standard size first. And boy was that a mistake. I found that I had to shove them painfully into my ears to get the maximum level of sound reduction. Still, I like them enough that I decided to buy the Baby Blues.

And they fit perfectly on the first try, effortlessly.

I'd recommend that you purchase these Baby Blues FIRST before stepping up to the Standard sized ER20s, because you can insert the Baby Blues deeply into a typical sized ear canal and get maximum sound reduction much more easily than you can force fit the Standard size into a smaller ear canal. In other words, since you essentially face a 50/50 chance that either the Baby Blues or the Standards will fit, you might as well go with the ones that can work well enough even if they don't fit perfectly: the Baby Blues.

Customer Review: Highly effective earplugs
Summary: 5 Stars

These are great pair of earplugs. Don't get these if you want complete isolation... Don't go shooting guns or anything like that with these. These are great for rock concerts, or any other loud situation where you still want to hear clearly, but just not as loud. Normal earplugs cut the high frequencies and all you hear are low mumbles. These are designed to allow a reduced amount of high frequencies, so that what you hear is pretty close to not wearing earplugs, but quieter. They claim 20db reduction, but I don't think they go that far. I would describe the reduction as going from loud to tolerable, but not quiet. I'm in a rock band and we rehearse in a garage. These work really good for that because you can still hear your instrument the way it really sounds, but just a little quieter. I hope this helps.

Customer Review: Exceeded my expectations!
Summary: 5 Stars

At 46 years of age, it had been a long time since I attended a rock concert. All I remember from my Aerosmith/Guns 'n Roses experience in the 80's was pain from the overwhelmingly loud music. Having no ear protection, I resorted to wet, rolled up toilet paper stuffed in my ears to make it through.

Older and wiser, and much more aware that high decibels are not your friend, I sought out ear protection that would still allow me to enjoy the music without muting out the highs and the lows. The Etymotic Research ER20 High-Fidelity Earplugs, performed better than expected, and I came home with none of that ear damaging ringing I remember as a teenager.

Well worth the money, and reusable too. They are a great choice if you want to hear the music, not just mute it out.

Customer Review: They Work!
Summary: 5 Stars

These earplugs are far superior to the foam industrial plugs I've used in the past. As a musician who plays music in many styles, acoustic and amplified, I can recommend them highly. It took some time to figure out how to insert them correctly. They must go deep into the ear canal. At first its frustrating to deal with the reduced volume level, and they do sound a bit muffled. The good part is that after you get used to them, they really do transmit a much more balanced sonic spectrum than the foam plugs. Also, when you're done with a rehearsal/performance and take them out, your ears feel fresh and responsive. You can have normal volume conversations with them inserted. Nothing is perfect, but these plugs, for the price, are a huge step up from the foam ones.

Customer Review: Best 12 Dollars I've Ever Spent
Summary: 5 Stars

After years of foam earplugs I doubted I was going to get anything special out of these but I was very happily surprised. I brought them to a recent two night, eight hour a night concert series and left without feeling like I missed the intensity of the music and my ears weren't ringing either. They go in snugly and stay put, no fiddling required. Sound comes through quite well, but unlike foam ear plugs these make incoming music sound even and clear, not fuzzy or muted. They do seem to knock out a little too much in the high frequency range but it's a minor quibble. If I needed to hear something, they're easy to pop out and put back in. That's another point in their favor over the cheap foam kind. Works just as advertised, what more can I say.
