Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Etón FR150 Microlink Solar-Powered, Self-Powered AM/FM/Weatherband Portable Radio with Flashlight and Cell Phone Charger (Black)Customer Review: Best quality, best value, best reliability out there! Summary: 5 Stars
This is by far the best crank emergency radio, period. I purchased 2 or 3 before getting to this one, and they all required around 3 min of cranking for some ridiculous amount of battery time. Plus, the others that I have been through would actually die if I didn't use it right after I cranked it. The last time I wound up this radio was about two weeks ago, and it still has charge, even after sitting on the shelf.
The radio is very high quality as well! It can receive radio signal almost as clearly as my car, and that is saying something! The tiny speaker is surprisingly high quality, as well as, loud. The light on the front is one of the better ones that I have seen, maybe the best. It's simple 3 LED system converges the light into one circle, and is extremely bright, so all in all the light is great too.
If all that doesn't get you excited, then also know that the solar panel is also freaking awesome. The solar panel in itself almost makes the whole radio worth it. Whether I'm sitting outside, or I just open a window and sit it on the window sill, the radio will run and charge off of the sun. Awesome!
This is a wonderful product. It is compact, reliable, high quality, and a must have for any emergency kit. Please believe me when I say that I've tried some of the best emergency radios out there, and this particular one, built by Eton, is one of the most inexpensive, and yet still greatest deal available.
I highly recommend this product!
Customer Review: Eton FR150 portable radio with many tropical storm features Summary: 5 Stars
Etón FR150 Microlink Solar-Powered, Self-Powered AM/FM/Weatherband Portable Radio with Flashlight and Cell Phone Charger (Black)I ordered this radio for my son and his family in South Florida. It is hurricane season again and they need the features this radio has.
It's picture does not really show how small it is and that makes it really nice for storing in a drawer or on top of frig,or in the car or boat till needed. Before the storm it is ready to receive weather reports with no worry about old batteries not working. With a storm over and no power or lights this item shines with crank or solar power. It has a flashlight to show the way and a neat AM/FM/Weather radio for information both before and after the storm. Oh yes just a few hand cranks power it for a good while.
The company should advertise it in Southern Living Magazine to reach all the South Florida folks. I plan to buy my wife and I one as we live in the mid-west and tornados race by with damages just as hurricanes do. It is a possible life-saving item! It price is reasonable and at Amazon it is shipped free. I just love it!
Customer Review: Eton FR150 is a life saver Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this little radio at a very reasonable price here on Amazon. It arrived immediately. I was going to use it as a stocking stuffer, but had the ice storm in New Hampshire that was threatening our little house up there. I took the radio along, not realizing how quickly I would need it. We had no electricity (still don't) and so "camping out" in 2 degree weather was not our idea of a vacation. We were willing to stay on and tough it out, as did so many others in Peterborough.
The weather station (which is loud and clear) told us of the blizzard that was on its way. Mind you, we had NO electricity, no TV, radio, running water, just a pellet stove which we discovered needs an electric start!
The radio's news of the storm made us decide to leave. We returned to NY. We left at 6 AM and as we reached White Plains (which now takes on more meaning for me) we were in a white out.
I am thankful to have the radio, and will now buy 4 more to give as gifts.
It is reliable, compact, solar works great ... I did not need to crank it. I did not have to try the cell phone charger, thank goodness.
Customer Review: Eton FR 150 - A backpackers must Summary: 5 Stars
Eton FR 150 Microlink: Radoo/Flashlight/Handcrank Charger
The Eton FR 150 Microlink is a must-have backpacker radio/flashlight/charger. At about 7.5 oz, it is not the smallest am/fm/NOAA weather available. It simply is the best quality palm-sized radio for $30.00. Grundig via Eton designed this radio in their American Red Cross Emergency Radio series. It is very well built with excellent reception and sound qualities. It is partially soft-armored for backpacking use. It is well sealed not waterproof, as in water-submersible, but
survives creek crossings and trail-soaking rains.
Its renewable power sources are distinct advantages. The hand crank is easy to use. The FR 150 has Solar energy panels built into the case providing constant outdoor daylight charging. The rechargeable batteries can be used to recharge a runned-down cell phone. Its bright LED flashlight provides backup for other heavier backpacker flashlights.
This is a high quality, well-built, inexpensive device for backpackers as well as for anyone's emergency survivial pack.
Customer Review: Recieves well, great buy! Summary: 5 Stars
Had my doubts when I ordered as we live in a very fringe area surrounded by mountains. Was very pleased to find this little radio pulled in stations as well or better than our larger, more expensive receivers. Also, the Noaa station comes in very clear and at times can get 3 stations.
I found that I get much more than an hour of listening for 90 seconds of cranking. And the light lasts very very long. Also, the solar cell requires very little sunlight to power the radio.
If I had one critique, it would be the very small tuning knob, making it a little difficult to fine tune stations. But this is not used in emergencies as the Noaa stations are tuned in by the selector switch.
All in all, a great purchase. We plan to get another one to keep in car.
