I use it in my office. I find the solar panel gets enough light from my north-facing window to operate the radio fine. If I give it a few cranks, it will work off the fluorescent lights for quite a while. However, I've found that a steady supply of power from my laptop via the USB cable provides better reception. As far as reception goes, it is your typical small analogue tuner that you have to adjust VERY delicately to get the best signal. For AM/FM talk radio, it works just fine. The Weather station works fine also.
In summary: it works excellent for what it is, and no batteries needed! You wont be having any dance-parties with it. LED flashlight is a great bonus too!

This thing is great! Holds a charge for at least 8 Hrs. when charged with a USB cable. Two Minutes of cranking will give you 30 minutes of play time. The sound is great and reception is also great for such a small item. This thing is a winner! People can't keep there hands off of it. Everyone that has seen it wants to know where I got it.

This item should be a requirement to those that live in areas of rough weather. I live in a rural area that is prone to power outages. We recently had what was called an inland hurricane. The area was power less for several weeks. At the time I did not have the Red Cross product. I went through 8 boxes of candles and several dozen batteries of various sizes in an effort to see during the night. After we regained power, the first thing I did was to purchase this device. Solidly built, good ergodynamics. Little green light shows when solar panel is charging battery, and this occurs even in lower sunlight levels. Weather band radio works well, tuning light for am/fm helps find stations. Battery life appears good.
Only complaint is incomplete instructions for using cellphone charging function. It comes with a short cord with 2 plugs, one which plugs into radio and the other is supposed to plug into cellphone???, but the plug doesn't fit either of our cellphones, and I haven't been able to find an intermediate adapter.

Thought that this was a gyp when it came in a box twice the size, but when I opened it up, I was more than impressed. It is more than I expected. Heavy duty and has 7 weather channels. Clear as a bell and the red is my favorite color. I use it for the regular radio also because it is easy to haul around the house. I have recommended it to everyone I talk to about it. Would have come in handy for the tornado a week before where we could not get the TV (Dish out), computer (electricity out). The LED lights are very bright. I would highly recommend.
