Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Escort Passport 9500ix Radar/Laser Detector (Black)

Customer Review: Escort Passport 9500ix
Summary: 5 Stars

I rejoined the radar detector user community recently with the Escort Passport 9500ix. I had an Escort for years until I moved to Virginia and was doing mostly city driving. I now live in Washington State and bought a high performance car in September. I needed the detector for self preservation since the car will break speed limits in first or second gear. So far the 9500ix's performance has been spectacular. So many signals, but not so many troopers and deputies. I especially like the automatic blanking of "false positives", display of your GPS speed when there is an alert (selectable to all the time if you want), and automatic lowering of alert volume after the initial reception. I haven't played with all of the options yet, but there is a lot of flexibility available. I like the weekly email from Escort to let you know if the database has an update for your area. All of the red light cameras I've run into were in the database. Overall, I highly recommend the Passport 9500ix.

Customer Review: 9500ix vs Valentine
Summary: 5 Stars

Approximately 6 months ago I purchased the 9500ix after a lot of research. It came down to the 9500ix and the Valentine - which 2 of my sons had bought the year before. I performed my own non scientific ,real-world, side-by-side comparison. The most important attribute to me was the sensitivity or the ability to pickup of radar signal at a distance. In my experience , the units were very close with the Valentine with a minimal edge. The direction finder is also a plus in looking for the source...even though its all about making sure you are not speeding and slowing down if necessary. Other than these two advantages, the Escort is much better......... learning false signals and rejecting them, redlight and speed camera notification, voice notification to allow you to keep your eyes on road, etc. So, after 6 months of use I am very happy with the 9000ix and would strongly recommend it if you are interested in a high end detector.

Customer Review: I want another one!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this detector and thought it was great. then a friend of mine convinced me the valentine 1 was better. so i sold my escort. bought a valentine one and hated it. yea the valentine 1 has arrows but there were so many false alarms i just turned off the valentine one so it was useless I gave it back to valentine one after 2 weeks. I think it was going off 85% of the time i was driving it was so annoying even on its "most restrictive" setting.

Although i did get a ticket with this detector not all of my settings were turned on (when you get it some settings are default off) which i think is the reason for the detector not going off.

I miss the escort after a few months of setting false alarms it was silent until a threat arrived there were few if any false alarms i cant wait to find another good deal then im buying myself another passport i will never buy a valentine one or recommend it again.

Customer Review: The only detector that doesn't annoy me with false alarm warnings.
Summary: 5 Stars

The accuracy and being able to eliminate false bands that come buildings closer to the roads. The Escort Passport 9500ix doesn't look all that different than it's many predecessors. Don't let that fool you. This is one VASTLY improved device. I've owned several prior Escort Radar detectors. I've also owned the Cobra and Valentine One detector. I wouldn't trade my 9500ix for them.
Another thing I like is the built in mute button located in the power cord. Instead of having to reach (dangerous while driving) across my dashboard - I can push a button on the power adapter and mute the detector.

What I like:
- barely any false alarms
- pleasant alerts
- shows current speed when alerting
- integrated GPS remembers where I've locked out a false alarm
- mute button on power cord

What I don't like
- nothing i can think about..

Customer Review: Great detector with a very useful self learning GPS system
Summary: 5 Stars

I own a 2007 Subaru WRX STi in southern Californian. A gold mine for cops, the epitome of profiling. A friend of mine suggested I buy this as he has the older 8500 model. I looked into it as I have seen his first hand and felt confident in its accuracy.

I have now been using this daily and love it. I am a young driver, and a mini feature I like it it can curb our bad driving habits. Say I roll up to a left turn, light turns yellow, do I go or stay? BEEP BEEP X Band..and I decide to stop rather than speed up.

That is just on the side, the GPS? Immaculate. I drive past these new speed signs that are radar, and after one pass to work, I looked the radar code with the 3x Mute button, and never again has it sounded unless a cop is there. That is how it should be.

I would suggest this to anyone looking for a great detector!
