Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Escort Passport 9500ix Radar/Laser Detector (Black)Customer Review: Worth the price tag Summary: 5 Stars
This is the first radar detector I've ever owned, but so far it has been very impressive. I find the radar will blow up (KA ++++++), and then I'll be wondering why; thirty seconds later a cop will fly by in oncoming traffic. I bought this detector for my Lotus Exige S which does not have rear-visibility (mid-engine car), and yet even still this radar is sensitive enough to alert me to radars behind my car.
My only complaint is that the GPS will warn you of red light cameras under the highway you are on. Seeing as how you can turn this off though, I don't see it as being terribly critical.
I find it interesting though how often I'll get radar gun'd, and ONLY notice it because of this detector. Without it I would be completely oblivious to what was going on.
My only problem is that I don't make a habit of speeding, so I wind up having a miniature heart-attack for no reason :).
With the way this Radar works, after driving around with it a few times the thing is silence unless there is an actual problem. Which is great.
Customer Review: Amazing BUT GPS cannot be updated on Apple Computer Summary: 5 Stars
This thing is amazing ... it will detect cop car radar parked on side of the road up in the mountains over a mile away. The thing starts beeping like crazy & your looking around & finally think its a false alarm & then you see the cop car on the side of the road. I got a speeding ticket a few weeks ago & just the hassle of taking defensive driving made me get this. Another amazing feature is that it will warn you of speed photo cameras & red light cameras (not that I would run a red light). Governor Brewer (Thank You!!!) got rid of the photo cameras in Phoenix but the smaller towns in Arizona still employ them. The unit is very well built (Made in Canada), if I'm spending this much money it better be made in USA, Canada, Japan or Germany. On my last trip from Phoenix, AZ to Springerville, AZ (230 miles one way) it warned me of 5 cop radars & 5 photo cameras. The only drawback: You can only update the system through Windows does not work on Apple Mac which I think is really stupid... for this price Escort needs to update this quick.
Customer Review: The Best on the Market Summary: 5 Stars
This detector is incredible and by far the best you can buy - bar none. Sure it is pricey but nothing else compares. Do your research prior to purchasing a detector. Go to[..] and compare them all.
The escort is the most sensitive and the quietest (virtually eliminates false alarms automatically) radar detector around. It outperforms the Valentine 1 on sensitivity plus you have the downloadable database of traffic light cameras and speed cameras. You get three months of updates for free and three years can be subscribed to for $49. This includes a 110 volt adapter to 12v in the subscription. Other options are availble for less money.
I would strongly recommend two things if you buy the 9500ix. First, purchase a AC to DC adapter so that you can do your download in you home. The 9500ix must be powered when connected to your computer. These adapters are usually less than $20. Second, watch the video at [...] PRIOR to doing your first download.
I believe you will love this detector!
Customer Review: Escort Passport 9500ix Summary: 5 Stars
This detector excels beyond its competition because of GPS ability. It locks-out false alarms the third encounter if auto enabled, or you may lock-out the source manually, and its GPS receiver remembers the location and silences the detector. It lets you know of the lockout by a rotating GPS icon on the front display.
You may also purchase an update subscription from Escort, which keeps the internal database updated with known red light and speed camera/trap locations. I bought one and the update process is painless, and quick.
There may be other detectors on the market that slightly beat the 9500ix in sensitivity, but if used in highway mode (preferred by me), it is no slouch. The detector may also be used in auto mode, which reduces sensitivity according to vehicle speed, which reduces false alarms.
This detector is a five-star item, and I'd recommend it to anyone. The GPS receiver in this detector is an absolutely brilliant application of technology.

Customer Review: 8500 X50 for me Summary: 5 Stars
I sent my 8500 x50 to be tuned and they loaned me the 9500.
I hated it. Why on earth would I want to know my speed before the frequency of the radar? I know how fast Im going. I want to know the band and immediately determine what to do. I know damn well how fast Im going. Those few seconds are very important. Got a good bracket for the 8500 tho.
I must admit that I didnt read the manual completely. Some of the features are not needed such as voice and the manual inclusion of a "speed trap" that will sound whenever GPS location approached. Probably a way around that too. Escort makes excellent products and am so used to the 8500X50. Zero points since 1986 and frequently cruise at over 110mph in a car with 134K miles on it. My wife and friend both use the Solo. I like 12 volts running thru my detector.
I guess this unit does deserve 5 stars and I deserve 0 stars.
It just isnt worth it to me when there isnt much difference in the range between this and the 8500.
