I purchased this product because I did not want to pay "beaucoup bucks" having Apple or someone else do it for me. I also did not want to pay extra to also have to send it away for a week or so. This specific product was the least expensive and stated that it came with instructions and a "tool".

I eventually did it myself and had the new battery installed in about 45 minutes. I now have, with extensive use with all features on. about 8 hours battery time, instead of 30 minutes. (I can go just over 13 hours.) So you can change your IPod battery but please be aware;

1. Do not even attempt to do this yourself if you are not electronic savvy or are inpatient.

2. The accompanying instructions are useless and I recommend going onto the Web for a site that has step-by-step pictorial instructions and recommends tools. Read the instructions first before proceeding. If you have any doubts, do not do it yourself.

3. The little "pry" tool that is to be used to open the IPod case is ineffective and you should not start this procedure without a better plastic tool. (see warning "2")

4. Be careful and patient when opening the case as you might cause damage to interior parts, especially the clasps that hold the two pieces of the case together...

5. Instead of soldering the new battery wires in place, look for instructions that instruct you to tie the new battery wires, to the existing ones. Otherwise you will need a soldering iron and flux.( see warning "2")

If you can follow these warning, then you can buy this product, replace your used battery, and continue listening to your music. Good luck!
