If you have children this item is a MUST. My daughter is now almost a year old and 80% of her toys have batteries. This one was perfect because it charged "D" batteries for her swing and bouncer seat when she was an infant but it also charges all the "AA", "AAA" and even "9V" that are required for almost every gift she receives.
It also handles batteries for my Husbands toys, which include remote controlled vehicles, handheld games and cameras.

I have used this charger with the Energizer 9-Volt Rechargeable Battery and i am very pleased with it, yes it takes some time to recharge the battery but 9-Volt batteries take longer to recharge than other batteries and the charge light comes off when the process is complete, so all in all a great product.Customer Review: Decent unit

this unit would be perfect except for two gripes.
1) when you take charged batteries out and put in ones to be charged, you have to unplug the whole unit then plug it back in for the charging led's to start. maybe the unit does charge but the led's won't light unless you unplug/plug.
2) plastic cover is great for keeping out dust, but i find it a pain to have to keep opening/closing the unit. Also, some batteries get really warm when charging and i'm worried that keeping the top closed may get it really hot (and reduce charging life of the batteries).
ok. one last gripe.
3) getting D cells out of this unit is like an act of God. They stick in there really tightly and require turning the unit upside down and smacking the bottom to get them out.
but it does a great job of charging (and not overcharging to my knowledge) so for the inexpensive price, i'm not going to complain.
It would've gotten a 5 except for the small problems mentioned above...

This charger is just fine overall. I only have one complaint. I leave the unit plugged in. The wall outlet isn't easily accessible where it is. When I put new batteries in, the unit does not automatically start charging them; the charging light is OFF. I have to unplug the unit, wait a few seconds and plug it back in and THEN the light comes on. Puh-LEASE... That's ridiculous. I can see WHY they did that I think. I have a small 4 AA charger from Energizer. To load that with batteries you really have to pull it out of the wall socket. That resets it and starts the charging when you plug it back in. I assume they used the same circuitry in the larger charger and didn't think about it. They really should have put in a reset button or power button on it to start the charging. (or some auto-sensing circuit that detects batteries are present) So what I had to do was plug it into a power strip with a switch on it to power cycle the unit every time. I mainly purchased this to charge the 9-volt batteries available. None of the info online indicated what the charging times were, and it turns out it takes 10-13 hours to charge these little batteries! The other types do charge faster, but still require at least several hours.
If you don't need 9-volt batteries it is definitely worth getting the quick chargers - I have a 15-minute version for AA & AAA batteries that works wonderfully. I would buy this charger for C, D, and 9-Volt recharge capability, just know they will take a long time.
