ShellShock: Nam '67 (DVD)
While this game appears to be interesting and fun for its age, I was not able to install it on my gaming Pc, without video issues. The graphics were garbled. A search at Eidos knowlege base found the issue, and the repairs was entered as indicated. The graphic issue was totally resolved, but then, 'in game', NO SOUND. (that was okay before the file fix) The intro movies were okay though. A search again revealed that a .dll file needed to be installed to correct the problem. Evidently Eidos used a "Creative" Company's .dll to create 3D sound and in the installation setup. I ran it over and over, to no avail.
On the other hand I installed the game on two other PCs to be sure and there it worked fine.
I wasted a whole day, and concluded it either don't don't like high end graphics cards, or I have some other issue in conflict, as I have many codecs installed, in order to play most any format of sound files, with Media Player 6 or 11; so as not to have to clutter of 'players'programs, to run what I enjoy.
I think the sound files are probably .blk, .bnk or .bik (bink files) in the game, but the files are large and I now not how to access them or the like.
My suggestion is if one wants this game, as it is generally reasonably priced used, to go ahead, but then contact the seller, to see if it can be returned if you have an issue like this.
Though the following is off point; For the most part, I only have issues with about 10 percent of the game purchased at Amazon, but that is most often due to older games, that don't like high end graphics, or 16 bit, or multi processors, etc. Considering the price it's no big deal, as the overall saving and being able to enjoy MORE games, is often worth the loss.
In one case I received a game that cost $20. that would not accept the key code. I contacted the seller and they sent another! No questions asked! In another case a replacement was not available, and they did a prompt refund!
To date I HAVE YET TO FIND A BAD AMAZON SELLER.
