Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of INSTEN Folding Stereo Speaker - BlackCustomer Review: Great little unit *for the price* Summary: 5 Stars
OK, first for all the folks complaining that this unit isn't audiophile quality: DUH! What do you expect for the price?! Or the speaker size? Of course you're not going to get anything approaching serious audio quality or a real bottom end from anything this small!
I got this from Vortex Cable for under eight bucks, including shipping, and have used it nearly non-stop since it arrived yesterday. They shipped it promptly, in a bubble-pack envelope, and it arrived in fine shape. It's perfect with my Zune on the desk, or where I really wanted it - out in the garden. It's extremely directional, which is a drawback for outdoor use, but you can't beat this price with a stick. Even if it only lasts for the rest of the growing season I'll have gotten my money's-worth. And right now you can get them for about five bucks including shipping from Bargain Cell - I'm buying three more as gifts today because you just can't go wrong at that price.
Highly recommended as a knock-around, extremely portable way to listen to your Zune (or iPod) if, like me, you hate headphones/ear buds. If it falls apart or otherwise disappoints me in the next few weeks I'll be back with another review, but for now I give it five stars *at the price of $10 or less* because I certainly didn't expect even this much for that price.
Customer Review: Best in its price range Summary: 5 Stars
Pros:
- Analog volume control lets you adjust volume on the speakers directly.
- For speakers of this size and price, they can get very loud.
- DC input with included USB cable lets you power the device from a laptop, no batteries required.
- Pretty decent quality.
- Cable is long enough to accomodate any device.
Cons:
- Not the best quality--but if you want better quality, you'll need to look at a much more expensive unit.
- Unfolding them involves taking the "nest" plate off the bottom. If you want to rest your iPod in them, you have to flip it and put it back on again.
- Runs on 4 AAA batteries, a bit much for portable speakers.
- "Nest" accomodates only smallish MP3 players. Not useful for my eBook reader.
Overall:
- I've tried many, many low-end portable speaker systems, and the only other good one I've found is the Coby Travel Speaker System. That one has slightly better sound quality, but no volume control. If your MP3 player puts out a lot of sound without external amplification and fits in the Coby, that's an excellent choice, but if you need a bigger boost or have a larger player or a laptop, go with these.
Customer Review: Great litle speakers...... Summary: 5 Stars
As I have said in the title great little speakers, if they came in white, they would make a killing. I got mine and I bought as a joke because one of my family members bought a freaking boss Ipod speaker for $380.00 I was shock I thought she got fool by the sales rep. So now I have this speakers the cool thing is that you can used them as notebooks speakers, the audio cord attach to it is really short since it's made only to be able to reach the Ipod next to it, so it makes it hard to place next my laptop because the audio jack in my computer is in the front of the computer not in the side like it should be.
Great things aboutit
#1 It comes with a usb power cord so you can plug to your computer.
#2 It has a good bass, for the price.
#3 Extremely portable it looks like a mini boom box.
#4 Run on AAA batteries which happen to be very cheap, I have not tested how long the last but guessing by the amount of sound they put out I'm pretty sure the batteries will not last that long, regardless, even if that is the case this is a good buy for sure.
I guess the only con, is that at it's loudest setting it does not sound as great, but again this speakers are good.
I wonder what would they sound like if the casing was made of wood.
Customer Review: Blew me away! Summary: 5 Stars
Astounding! I never expected anything like the sound quality and features on a $2 mp3 speaker set. In fact I expected it to be a waste of money. Wow! Was I ever wrong. It has fold out stereo speakers that have many times the volume and audio quality of the HTC Hero smartphone and mp3 player I got it for (great android phone btw). The 3.5 mm audio jack in folded in and out of sight when closed. When opened the mp3 holder - dock reveals the cord and jack. It can be power by 4 AAA batteries, but it comes with a 6V connector and even a cord whit the 6V jack on one end and a standards USB A jack on the other, so it can be powered off any computer, laptop, netbook, or other usb jack. No, it's not going to match a set of state-of-the art Bose speakers, but do you really expect that for 2 bucks? What is amazing is that it sounds as good if not better than my Sony mini-boom box, or most $30 to $50 FM stereo radios or players. Will it last? Who knows? Probably not, but for $5 (with shipping) I expect to get my money's worth and get some nice amplified sound from my Android mp3 smartphone in the meantime. I highly recommend this "steal".
Customer Review: Good value compact/portable speaker Summary: 5 Stars
This speaker is a very good value. For five bucks you get good enough quality sound to share your mp3 player and better sound than most laptop speakers. Don't compare it with sound quality of $40 speakers for you're surely be disappointed. The midrange and high tones are excellent, you just cannot expect low base sounds from this small thing. But if you want portable space efficient sound, this speaker fits the bill. This speaker produces noise when you put your cell phone next to it. Just get in the habit of putting your cell phone three or more feet away. I like how you can power this speaker with the included USB cord, four AAA batteries or optional power adapter. So you have more options than other portable speakers. You can fold it like a clamshell, throw it in your backpack and have good sound with your MP3 player or smartphone on the beach or in the woods.
If you're value oriented and not an audiophile just get this thing. I already bought two and debating whether to get more.
