Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of EMU XMIDI 1X1 USB MIDI Interface

Customer Review: Works great with my new Gateway PC running 64-bit Windows 7
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this because I recently replaced my older PC running Windows 2000, and the old MIDI card was not compatible with my new Windows 7 PC.

I was able to install this with absolutely no difficulty, and it worked immediately with my Windows 7 64-bit system. I haven't noticed any MIDI latency (delay) caused by this interface, so I'm glad I spent a little extra money to buy this device rather than the cheaper products that people are complaining about. I'm using this device along with my Cubase VST 5.0 music recording & production software, and it works seamlessly.

I'm not going to write much else, because there are plenty of other positive reviews here that I agree with.

One minor complaint: The little LEDs on this device's USB jack are BRIGHT! There are two LEDs: A white one that is on constantly to indicate power is applied to the device, and it also flashes when MIDI data comes IN to the interface. And there's a blue one that is normally off but flashes when MIDI data is going OUT of the interface. It seems like these manufacturers are so proud of these LEDs that they make them super-bright. I realize they use very little power, but the manufacturers could dim these down at least 50% and they'd still be bright enough -- they don't need to light up the whole area under my desk!

Customer Review: Buy this and save yourself extra money!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Order arrived by US MAIL to my PO BOX in 4 days in a nicely padded envelope. Buy this excellent interface and save yourself at least (...) by not buying the m-audio or cakewalk versions. Windows (and yes even Vista and Windows 7(I'm running the beta Windows 7 Enterprise 65 bit version and also 32 bit Vista home professional) will recognize your USB EMU XMidi right away. You can go to emu and download drivers and a pdf of the user manual. REMEMBER, out is IN and IN is out....that's right, hook the labeled blue labeled "IN" connector to your "Midi Out" connection. Think of it this way, the blue connector is labeled correctly, it's an "IN"put for midi data. Other than that, NO or very little latency (take that cakewalk!!) Yes, I replaced a lost cakewalk usb midi interface that I had previosuly purchased as part of the Cakewalk Usb home studio package (I think still (...)). The software is good, but the cable just isn't as good as quality as this one is. Buy it, and save yourself money and headaches!! FYI, here is the link to the manual and drivers -(...) While you are there, you should download the FREE Proteus VX!

Customer Review: Great cable for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

So, I bought this cable about a month ago, and it's held up pretty well. It's surprisingly long, and the setup was a breeze. The lights on the little gray bar on the cable are really helpful for making sure it's working. About the latency...if you don't have a really good system or an audio card with it's own ASIO drivers, it is going to be noticeable. Since it's the only MIDI cable I've tried, I can' say whether this has bad latency or not, but I do know from testing that the latency on the cable has a lot to do with your particular sound setup. If you're good with music, however, it should be easy to work around. Also, make sure that the MIDI OUT on the cable is plugged into the MIDI IN on the controller and that MIDI IN on the cable is plugged into the MIDI OUT on the controller. While I didn't have this problem, it's still good to make sure that others out there don't think that this cable doesn't work when it's just that they didn't plug the cables in right. In any case, this is a great cable, and I highly recommend that you try it out and see if you like it.

Customer Review: It Works!
Summary: 5 Stars

This cable works! I, like many others, tried the cheap no name USB-to-MIDI cable, and it did not work. This one by E-MU does work. I tested it by connecting a CASIO MZ-2000 Workstation Keyboard to a Dell Inspiron 530s PC running Cakewalk Music Creator 4 and Windows Vista Home Premium. Generic Drivers included with Windows loaded upon plug-in. E-MU recommends downloading and installing their drivers for full performance. I did this and didn't notice any difference in performance. I guess there was nothing to improve on since the generic drivers worked so well. I used the Realtek soundcard included with the Dell and run ASIO4All for low latency sound. Any latency from this E-MU cable was virtually undetectable. The sound from the Cakewalk TTS-1 software played as naturally on the Casio's keys as the ZPI SoundSource built into the MZ-2000. Cable performance was flawless. If I have any complaint, it's the relatively short 6ft cable length. Adding another 3ft to the cable would be ideal for me. Otherwise, I'm happy!

Customer Review: Just What I needed for My old keyboard
Summary: 5 Stars

This E-MU Xmidi 1X1 V3 USB MIDI Interface USB cable from E-MU has been great! I thought I was going to have to buy a new USB keyboard to use in music notation programs like Finale, and in recording midi tracks in programs like Cubase. Instead, I spent $30 on this cable and was able to use my old Kawai PH 50 four octave keyboard I had bought in the mid 80's as my keyboard interface. There have been no problems so far. Latency (delay) has not been a problem. I did download and install the driver from the E-MU website, but I am not sure if that was necessary. I am running Windows Vista 32 bit.

*One note: I only use softsynth sounds that come with the various computer programs I own, and don't know whether the sounds in the Kawai hardware could be used or not on my computer. (I don't really care, because those sounds are really dated anyway.)
