Customer Review: Provides a decent amount of emergency charge for the money
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this product just prior to a trip to Walt Disney World, where I anticipated using my phone a great deal (the video camera function, as well as checking in via social media) and I wanted something with me that I could use to keep my phone going if it started to get low on battery.

I ended up using it several times over the course of the trip (and a few times since I've been back, as well) and the device restored about 35-40% of battery life to my T-Mobile HTC G2 mobile phone. I did need to carry a separate micro usb link cable in order to use the emergency charger, but that is due to the somewhat non-standard micro usb connector on my phone.

The configuration of this emergency charger makes it easy to use different cables to accommodate devices with different connector types, as you simply plug in the any USB cable you have for your device into the charger and then plug your device-specific end into your device.

While this will not get a full charge back for your device, it will get you enough to keep you going longer than a single charge of your device's internal battery will allow. If you read the specs on most other emergency chargers, you will find that's usually the case with those, too, especially the ones in this price range. This one works about how I expected it to, and reliably, so if you can find this product at an acceptable price, it should do the job for you.

Customer Review: Good small battery, the new model might be worth waiting for
Summary: 4 Stars

This seems like a good small reserve battery. One nice plus is it is the smallest and lightest reserve battery I have owned. It uses a standard mini-usb connector so you can charge it through a USB port or any of the many wall adaptors you probably have.

To get an idea of the capacity of this device it provieds 1000mAh at 5 volts, a Nintendo DS Lite is 800mAh at 3.7V and a typical Motorola phone is 900mAh at 3.7V. So, one would expect the Duracell to about double the run time of any of these products (provided you have a USB charger for them). Note a typical high capacity NiMH battery is 2400mAH, at 1.2 volts. The power available in these devices in Wh or V*A.

This battery is a great size to carry with you all the time. It should provide enough additional power for that emergency phone call, or to power a PDA if you still have one.

One may want to wait for the next model; it has twice the capacity 2000mAh and a charge indicator http://www.duracell.com/us/smartpower/products_PowerReserve.asp. I expect it will probably cost more as well. If you need even more capacity today you can get a 3400mAh device http://www.amazon.com/Proporta-30423-USB-TurboCharger-3400/dp/B002DYGQI6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1253240582&sr=8-1.

Customer Review: For what it is, it is really good!
Summary: 4 Stars

First off, keep in mind this is a ~1000mAh pocket charger. It is inexpensive, and very portable. I have tested mine a couple times on my Motorola Droid Phone. With my phone turned on, but not being used(and with screen off), it charged my Droid battery from 20% up to 70%. So on a Droid, this will give you about 50% more power(if charging while phone is not being used).

I find that to be bearable. I would have liked it to provide a complete charge, but the droid has a higher mAh(1300), so I didn't expect it to do that. All in all, it provided power to the phone, plus a charge of 50%, not bad at all, and it completes its needed task of making my phone last a full day without needing to be plugged in!

The next step for these devices will be to make a one that has the USB socket still, but also a couple 'snap out' connectors, like a micro and mini usb connector, so cords wouldn't be needed for all devices. I haven't heard of this happening anytime soon, or at all, but I have heard they are coming out with new models that have higher mAh(~2000) soon, so that will be nice if it is still the same small size!

Customer Review: Small, simple, cheapish, but there are better

I bought this on lightningdeals 4 mos ago and have used it much. Keep it charging on my computer all the time and grab it when I leave for work. It is rock simple to use. Charges with USB mini and accepts any standard USB cable to your device. It is 1000 mAh, good for 3/4 charge on my Blackberry 8330 with large 3rd party battery.

If you want 5 times the total power in just a slightly bigger package at about twice the price, check out Satechi iCel 4400 mAh Battery Extender Pack and Charger for iPhone 3G & 3Gs, iPod, Flip & Vado HD Camcorders from Satechi, listed on Amazon.

Customer Review: Duracel lInstant power review
Summary: 4 Stars

I got the Duracell Instant Power Charger (DIPC) to provide backup to my blackberry and other devices which use a USB charger. I've only had it for a two months but so far its been great. I keep the DIPC charged and in my computer bag in case I my blackberry (BB) runs out of batteries. I've had to use it twice so far and each time it worked exactly as advertised. It actually charges my BB faster than my computer does. The only issue is that there isn't enough juice in the DIPC to fully charge my BB. It only gets to 3 bars (out of 4). For the $25 or so that I paid for it its a nice thing to have when you HAVE to use your phone and it has no power left.
