I only had to use it once so far during a recent trip. Fortunately my car has two cigarette lighter sockets and so one was used for the GPS navigation device.
My son used it to charge his toy/game using the AC outlet and my wife plugged her phone in the USB port..worked well.
I would recommend this to others...

As soon as I received the product, I plugged it in the lighter outlet, then plug my laptop into it. We were on our way to a friends in the neighboring city, so I wanted to follow the directions on my saved map, on the laptop. Powered right up, like i was plugged into the house outlet.
if you need the power, get this jewel.

Used this unit on a 5 week vacation in alaska. unit worked great there is a very slight hum but it is something i would expect. blue light to indicate it was on was good. also had a case to store it in. used it to charge cell phones, two way radios and laptop - worked better than the old cobra unit i use to have. highly recomend it.Customer Review: Small but mighty

The product is smaller than I thought it would be but it can power my laptop and cellphone. It works great so far except for noticeable noise upon powering on (it might have an internal fan). The on/off button helps instead of pulling the plug and dropping something that might cause an accident when you're driving.Customer Review: It works

So far I've only used it to charge my cell phone on a long trip, and it has worked great for that. The only thing I've noticed is that it will sometimes make a low volume but high pitched squealing sound for a very short time when first turning it on. It goes away after a minute so it really isn't an issue.
