Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Skipdoctor CD Repair KitCustomer Review: Wonderful money-saving product!! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had a Skip Doctor for about a year and a half and have mangaged to save about 15 unusable CDs and eight or ten DVDs. In fact I've bought a few DVDs for a bargain on eBay that the seller said was damaged and managed to make them perfectly playable!! The key is following the directions and take your time. Make sure you keep the disc very wet during the process and polish it out with the white cloth. Another thing I've found that helps is after you've repaired a few discs the abrasive wheel becomes less abrasive as it gets barely clogged with the material it rubs off the discs. Keep that wheel clean and the device will work flawlessly. The people that say it ruined their discs were either not keeping the disc wet or probably not patient enough to use this - I have spent as much as 20 minutes going over and over the disc until it's fixed and it has never caused one of my discs to become worse after using it. It is a great product, but it does require the user to read the directions and be patient to make it work properly.
Customer Review: Saves CDs/DVDs/games Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not sure why so many people have problems with this. I bought it years ago, and I'm thrilled with it. I buy used CDs, DVDs and games all the time, and I run them all through Skip Dr. This is used stuff from pawn shops, garage sales, video stores, etc. Skip Dr will repair all but the deepest gouges -- I rarely worry about the condition of used music, movies or games because I know I can make them work. Skip Dr has saved me a lot of money from having to buy all new media. Sure, there is that one CD or DVD that is just too damaged to repair, but nothing would make those work again anyway.
As to people who "followed the directions and ruined CDs," I don't know what to say. I read the directions once, it was simple and straightforward enough, and I've repaired dozens of damaged discs over the past several years. The only real complaint I have is that it can be tough to find new resurfacing fluid when I run out. For some reason, the machines are everywhere, but few stores carry the fluid all by itself.
Customer Review: Has worked every time I've used it Summary: 5 Stars
I received this gizmo as a gift sometime ago, and have had to use it twice since then. Both times it took the skip away from my lightly scratched CDs. I followed the directions that came with the Skip Dr. (i.e., I kept the discs wet with resurfacing fluid, ran them through the gizmo twice, dried them off, and buffed them afterward) and the skips and scratches disappeared. I understand that I'll need to replace the resurfacing wheel after 50 or so uses, according to the literature included, but since I try to keep my CDs in immaculate condition, I hope it will be a good long while until this is necessary.
All in all, a great device for those who need to repair the occasional minor scratch/skip. For those whose CDs double as coasters, though, you may need to look elsewhere for scratch repair.
Update: I've been using this for over a year now with good results every time. I completely stand by my original review.
Customer Review: This thing works Summary: 5 Stars
I have no idea what most of the negative reviews are talking about. This item has worked perfectly for me. I've probably used it a dozen times and it has worked each time. I first bought it when I was desperate for a CD fix(a game I had been playing for about 45 hours). So I definitely wanted a fix. This thing takes a little effort, but the game worked perfectly after.
Some tips...don't use this thing to clean a disc...A dirty disc doesn't justify its use. It basically resurfaces the bottom of the disc, removing the scratches that are causing the freezing. Also, follow the directions. Some discs are junk and not fixable...scratches on the top for example. But if you have minor scratches to fix that aren't that deep, this thing will fix it. I actually got on this site to find another, if that tells you anything(my other one is in storage in another state).
Customer Review: Skip Dr. Summary: 5 Stars
I finally broke down and had to take a chance on this product, as i had several DVD movies that would no longer play becuase my 2yr old keeps getting a hold of them and scratching them up pretty bad. I went to Wal Mart and bought this product, and I'm very impressed as all my bad DVD's that wouldn't play , now play perfect and don't skip at all. For really bad CD's or DVD's, i keep the surface wet, and make 3 or 4 rounds on the media, and if it's not that bad i'll go once or twice. This is definatley a great product and recommend all of you that have media that no longer plays, or skips, to pick this up as you wont regret it. I would have snagged the motorized version of this but didn't have it in stock anywere, but this works just as well and is plenty cheaper than the motorized version.
