Customer Review: Does the job, simple as that
Summary: 5 Stars

While going through our DVDs recently, I discovered a couple damaged DVDs that wouldn't read properly on a computer. Since the Skip Dr. wasn't all that expensive and looked to be well reviewed, I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did - I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone else with scratched DVDs.

This unit is simple to operate. You just spray the DVD with the "magic fluid" (which is mostly water) and insert the disc into the slot. The Skip Dr. runs it through automatically, and ejects it when it's done. While the unit can be powered by batteries, it does come with an AC adapter. It works well using the adapter - I can't speak to how well it runs on batteries.

So far I've repaired two discs. The first DVD was scratched several times one one portion of the disc only - the Skip Dr. fixed this problem with one pass. The other disc was purchased used by my daughter, and was significantly scratched (not gouged) over most of the surface. Repairing this disc took two runs through the Skip Dr., but now the disc plays flawlessly.

Customer Review: Repairing an Xbox 360 game disc
Summary: 5 Stars

I accidentally knocked over my Xbox 360 while playing Oblivion and found that my disc had many perfectly circular severe (but not too deep) scratches. In an effort to make sure the game was playable I tried loading it to the hard drive. After 10% progress, it stopped. Trying to play the game from the disc it would slow down and eventually freeze after a short time. Here's what happened each time I ran it through.

1. Ran it through once, tried to load it to the hard drive. No change- 10%
2. No change
3. I ran it through and let it sit, tried loading without polishing- 0%
4. ran it through and polished- 15%
5. no change
6. ran it through let it sit
7. ran it through and polished it- 100%

It took a while but I was very surprised and impressed. The criticisms I can give are the how many times I repeated the process and that it is very loud. I couldn't take off for that, though, since not only can I play the game, it loaded to my hard drive after getting so damaged. So, I had to write a good review.

Customer Review: Works As Described!
Summary: 5 Stars

So I was a bit skeptical when I bought this product, but I figured I had to give it a try. My test CD? An Xbox 360 game that I found outside that looked like it had been thrown out of a moving car. There were some very serious scratches on it and my 360 had no interest in playing the game for me.

My Skip Dr. arrived, I plugged it in, I liberally sprayed the disc with the included solution, placed it easily into the unit (I don't know what those other reviewers are talking about when they say they have to force it in) and the Skip Dr. immediately started cleaning the disc. About 2 minutes later, it spat it back out. I then buffed it as recommended by the instructions.

Now, the moment of truth! I put the newly buffed Disc (which no longer had ANY visible scratches on it) into my Xbox 360 - and it worked perfectly!! No hiccups whatsoever!

Now I've just got to get rid of this junky Xbox game I found on the ground.... gamestop here I come!

Customer Review: Saved discs I had thought were gone!
Summary: 5 Stars

I normally take very good care of my discs, but every now and then one pops up with a scratch and starts to skip. So frustrating when you spend so much money on buying CDs. Also, I often borrow CD sets from the library and they are typically loaded with scratches which make the CDs skip. I bought this unit to help me with both of these problems.

So what the result? It works great! I've been able to fix most of the CDs and they play perfectly now! I'm so excited! It doesn't work miracles on really deep scratches, but I didn't expect it would be able to fix those. I don't think that's a reasonable expectation. I highly recommend this product to those of you who are interested in fixing discs with skips. The instructions say that you may need to run the disc through more than one time depending on how deep the scratch is. I think they say you can run the disc through about 10 times without effecting the playing quality. It's a very impressive tool! I highly recommend!

Customer Review: Great product, COMES WITH A POWER CORD
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered one of these because my copy of NHL 08 for Xbox 360 was so scratched it wouldn't play (really nasty circular scratches all around the disc). Within 3 minutes, this thing made it good as new - the manual portions of the process are easy, and the machine works fast. The machine is smartly designed, too - it holds the spray fluid, cleaning cloth, and buffer in built-in compartments. After being cleaned/resurfaced, the disc does have a radial pattern on it, but my system reads it like a charm. The machine says that the same disc can be cleaned multiple times, so I guess it doesn't wear off all of the coating.

Also, the unit I ordered came with the AC Adapter in the box (with a sticker advertising as such), so I think it's now included. I think it's more convenient with batteries, but the power brick works well too.

For the cost of one replacement game disc, I now have confidence that all of my games and movies are safe. That's something!
