Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of DeLorme Earthmate GPS LT-20 2008 U.S.A./Canada Map DVD-ROM (Windows)Customer Review: GPS Summary: 4 Stars
If you can work with the cords and have a labtop you us, this is a great over the road item
Customer Review: Not for small notebooks... Summary: 3 Stars
I use an Asus Eee PC 900 as a portable and thought it would make a great little GPS. I had to install it over a network because the PC 900 has no disk drive (it's also got a small flash memory which has limitations.) It took forever to load, and it's response is so sluggish I passed my turns and it did not recalculate the route for more than 2 minutes!.... Again, THIS IS NOT DUE TO THE PROGRAM OR GPS!!!, it is the limitations of the computer. The software appears to work well and I will try it in my wife's laptop soon. Many more features are in this software than in my low-mid-priced standalone GPS, even though my Earthmate has 2008 mapping software. Earthmate GPS LT-20 and it's mapping program are WELL WORTH THE PRICE with a normal laptop!
Customer Review: Useful Item Summary: 3 Stars
For the price, this route planning software is useful. The poi's are still reasonably up to date and the GPS works fine. Using the GPS function when traveling solo is down right dangerous. The new dash mounted GPS Navigation units just make a lot more sense. I hooked my Earthmate GPS to one of the new Netbooks with 6 hours of battery life. After a few trial runs I decided to keep the software for route planning and use a dash mounted touch screen unit to provide directions while traveling. If you want to keep a partner busy while traveling, the Earthmate LT-20 would do that..
Customer Review: Interesting but limited Summary: 3 Stars
Interesting mapping software. Fairly easy and straightforward to use. The GPS works but is extremely limited as a practical matter because your laptop will take up the front passenger seat. Viewing it while driving will take your eyes off the road too far unlike a dash-mounted unit. Someone who drives alone for business all the time might be able to make use of this with a computer mount installed in their car over the center console. Stick with a dash-mounted GPS for regular driving assistance.
Customer Review: some kinks Summary: 3 Stars
There are a lot of great features in this GPS.........but it either isn't up to date, or the satellites and my GPs and car are 'out of phase'....the
tracking arrows seem to run alongside a road, not on top of it and then the recalculate notice starts...but I like the 3 different zoom maps all showing at the same time. Just make sure you have a back up checking source when using this system, and take the time to learn it to save yourself trouble on the road.
