Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Definitive Technology NCUB ProMonitor 100 Mk II Speaker (Pair, Silver)Customer Review: Great sound, excellent value for money Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased a pair of Promonitor 100 MK2s last year, but never hooked them up because of the layout of my place. I recently rearranged some furniture and decided to break these out. And I'm sure glad I did. These speakers are VERY clear, the highs are very audible and out there, the overall sound is CRISP. There's not too much bass coming out of these speakers but if you crank it, you can get satisfactory bass. I paired it with a Definitive Tech subwoofer and now it's perfect. My music sounds much better and I can hear a lot of things I could not hear before.
I also have a set of Polk Monitor speakers that I purchased recently to use as my front speakers (I've been using the Promonitors as my surrounds), and I can notice a big difference. The Polks put out much more bass and are great by themselves, but I like the sound of my Definitive Tech speakers much more than I like the Polks (they're not bad speakers, I just prefer the Deftechs). The highs are very clear and I find myself putting my music on 5-channel setting and gravitating towards the rear speakers - I can hear so much more detail from these speakers. I've ordered another set of Promonitor 100s to use as my front speakers to replace the Polk Audio Monitors, and am looking forward to setting those up.
These may not put out enough sound in a big room, but I live in a small condo and have neighbors so these are more than enough for me. I get VERY good sound even without cranking my receiver up all the way.
At the sale price of less than hundred for a pair, these are a steal and I consider these speakers the best value for money in entry level speakers. These sound better than speakers that cost five times more and are classified higher. If you're on the fence, buy a pair and you'll be glad you did. I was!
Description of Definitive Technology NCUB ProMonitor 100 Mk II Speaker (Pair, Silver)The ProMonitors are a masterpiece of engineering and design virtuosity. They are beautifully sculptured, ultra-compact, magnetically shielded main or rear channel full-range systems. The cabinets are molded of a De?nitive-developed high-density, mineral-?lled, non-resonant polymer material called PolyStoneTM. Housed in the totally inert enclosures are a cast-basket 51/4" bass/midrange driver and a 1" pure aluminum dome tweeter (the same basic high-end drivers used in our top-of-the-line bipolar SuperTowers), perfectly blended together with a complex Linkwitz-Riley crossover network. The rear and sides of the enclosures are actually one continuous compound curve which has very speci?c performance bene?ts in addition to its obvious styling attributes. This NROCTM (Non Resonance Optimization CurveTM) is precisely con?gured, in combination with a non-parallel to and bottom, to minimize both internal re?ections and cabinet-wall resonances to achieve purer sound and greater clarity.
