Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Dreamgear DRM696 Gamecube Wireless CntrlCustomer Review: (Almost) Perfect Summary: 5 Stars
The reason I say almost in the title is because there is one small (as in tiny) noticeable difference between using this controller and using a standard GameCube controller. Which is that the shoulder (L & R) buttons don't click when you press them down all the way. There is a difference between halfway down and all the way down that you can feel, it just doesn't click. This doesn't really affect gameplay in any way from what I can tell, though there is a small glitch in Mario Sunshine. When you click the R button to stand still and aim, instead of standing still Mario will start slowly walking around. I prefer using the Y button to aim so it doesn't really bother me, but it's something that should be noted anyway.
Having said that, everything else about this controller is absolutely flawless. If there's any difference in feel or anything else between this and a regular controller, it's not enough to notice. The internal red lighting is a nice addition, as already mentioned, along with the light on the receiver that blinks/stays solid depending on whether or not the controller is on. I like how the lights on the receivers are only on when the GameCube is on. I thought the blinking might get annoying when only using one controller, since I bought two of them and have both plugged in, but I never noticed it while playing. The first time you use it you'll have to plug in the receiver, turn on the controller and the GameCube, and then press the connect button on the controller to link it to its receiver. So far I've only had to connect each of mine once, so I think they just stay connected after the first time.
The size and button layout are basically identical to a regular controller, except this one has a turbo button, a rounded D-pad, and a nice shiny chrome ring around each analog stick. The light weight, rubberized grips, and lack of cord make it really comfortable to use. Also, as a side note, the package doesn't include batteries, so you'll need 3 AAA's for each one you buy. Overall I'd say they did a really good job making this, especially for the price.
