Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of D-Link DUB-H7 High Speed USB 2.0 7-Port Hub

Customer Review: Perfect USB Hub!
Summary: 5 Stars

With SO MANY choices of USB hubs, I had a hard time deciding on a good selection. However, I'm VERY satisfied with this D-Link Hi-Speed 7-port USB Hub!

Why spend $50 or more on a USB hub... the technology is not new, and it is a worldwide supported and implemented standard. My only concern was whether to get a 4-port or 7-port hub. I opted for this 7-port hub, as it was at a great value and manufactured by a trusted company (D-Link makes great routers!).

Although it requires an AC adapter, it is worth it, as it guarantees full power output to each individual port, whereas the USB hubs that don't require an external power source just divide up the power from the single root USB port from the computer, and thus the transfer speed to the devices is decreased and powering small USB devices (such as a fan or light) becomes incapable.

Don't wander around the internet looking for a good-value, reliable USB hub like I did. Trust D-Link on this one. And with so many computer peripherals utilizing USB, you may not think you'd ever use all seven of the ports, but you most likely will down the line!

Customer Review: D-Link Self-powered Seven-port USB 2.0 Hub
Summary: 5 Stars

Every day more and more external devices are using USB hubs to connect to a PC. Some of these devices require a significant amount of power. A hub recognizes the dynamic attachment of a peripheral device and provides at least 0.5W of power per peripheral during installation. Under the control of the host PC driver software, the hub can provide up to a maximum of 2.5W of power. For the most reliable operation, I recommend that you use self-powered hubs which plug into an AC adapter. Bus-powered hubs draw their power from the PC's root hub connector and aren't always capable of providing adequate power for high-powered devices such as optical mice.
Self-powered hubs provide the most flexibility for future downstream devices. Incidentally, if you're using a USB hub, don't disconnect it's power supply, don't turn off the hub's power, and don't remove any components while Windows XP is still running. Use the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature in the system tray. I also recommend the use of an uninterruptible power supply.

Customer Review: Solid, Rock Solid, Great Size
Summary: 5 Stars

7 port powered USB hub in a solid rectangular package, it doesn't get more utilitarian. This is probably one of the nicest simple USB hubs I have ever seen. If you don't need a powered hub, this is small enough to toss in the laptop bag and take with you. The wall wart is reasonably small, so if you need a powered hub, it's not hard to carry.

This is a USB 1 or 2 hub - it is NOT a USB 3 hub.

There's something unique about 7 ports. That is a really nice number for this package. There are more stylish, smaller hubs. I've never seen one that is just this rugged and simple. The price just can't be beat.

It works exactly as described, the USB wire is about three feet long, so you can get some decent distance from your computer. Plug it in any USB port and voila, seven additional USB ports. No drivers are installed.

It has a very nice weight to it. The base has four little rubber feet to help keep it from skidding around. This could be easily velcroed to the top of a computer case.

Customer Review: So far, so good
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this hub mostly for the price, and the need to quick-connect my laptop to 6 devices when I get home. I run a wireless mouse, External keyboard, printer, External disc burners/readers, and external hard drives, all with no trouble.

No studdering with the mouse, and transfers between hard drives are quick.

I could not be happier with this product

***UPDATE***

I bought this hub almost 3 full months ago, and have yet to have even the slightest problem. I am running a wireless mouse, external keyboard, 720p webcam, and a gaming joystick all at the same time, with just a single USB port in my laptop being used. No need for a docking station with this hub, which saved me over $200. I am pushing this hub as hard as my needs can, and this simple, easy to install device has yet to cause me any problems. I am going to buy another one of these, to use on my desktop computer.

Buy this USB hub with complete confidence.

***** Stars!

This is a fantastic hub for the price! I have both USB 1.1 devices and USB 2.0 devices plugged into it and the USB 2.0 devices operate at USB 2.0 speed without any problems.

It is a misconception that it will only operate at USB 1.1 if you plug USB 1.1 devices into it. Perhaps some of the so-called "reviewers" here think once you buy a computer, all you have to do is occasionally run Windows Update, lol. You do need to go to your computer's maker, and update the Bios, drivers and the like at least twice a year, to be prudent.

I'm quite happy with this hub. It has allowed me to plug my 2 printers, external hard drive, external DVD RW, wireless keyboard and mouse into it, and tuck it all away, out-of-sight, freeing the back of my computer from a jumbled mess!

I have used a D-Link Router & wireless G set-up for almost two years now, without ever encountering a problem. I am sold on D-Link quality.
