My nephew and friends are hooked on these dance games. It's more like Simon with your feet and provides a fun way to exercise.
I bought several of them to have multiple players at more than one location.
The controllers seem responsive enough. The DDR mats stay in place on the floor better than the GamePlay universal mat. Both basic mats have the following issues: 1) They curl and/or bunch up during use and 2) The plastic material wears out fast.
I bought the mats to pull out for occasional guest entertainment. Since everyone loves to play so much, I expect to upgrade the mats shortly.
Bottom Line - If you think or know it will get heavily used, get the mat upgrade. Otherwise, these are excellent for testing interest or to pull out for parties.
Customer Review: Great game, but the mats curl Summary: 4 Stars
The game is fantastic but the mats themselves should only be purchased by the casual player. We've had trouble with the mats curling upwards and the sensors migrating, which can cause missteps even when the player actually got the step perfectly. Very annoying on Dance Master mode! We remedied the problem by weighting the corners down with hand weights and storing them flat but it's a bit of a pain in the butt to keep them like that, especially since we sometimes play more than once a day. Other than that, these mats are just fine!
Customer Review: DDR Dance Mats Summary: 4 Stars
These mats are great. I could tell as soon as I took them out of the box they were in great condition, they even smelt new. I would recommend buying from amazon. I personally felt like I was going to get a better product coming from Amazon. The 2 downfalls to these products is that after playing a moderatly fast song they start to bunch and move away from the PS2. The other bad things is that they are usually pretty sensitive, meaning you can't move around a lot or it will mess up your settings.
Hope this helped ;)
Customer Review: Decent pads considering price Summary: 4 Stars
These pads are pretty much your run-of-the-mill, flimsy, crinkly DDR pads. They are not padded, they're the kind that are easy to fold.
I chose them because of the low price, and the positive experience a friend of mine had with the padded version of this brand. When the wear out, I'll buy the 1-inch thick padded kind:
Playstation 2 Two DDR Dance Pads Combo (padded version)
Customer Review: Sweet! Summary: 4 Stars
Two for the price of... actually they may be cheaper than other singles I've seen. I've had mine for a couple of weeks now, and they are wonderful! All the controls work wonderfully. [[I was worried that they'd be a cheap knock off or something.]] The only downside is that this particular type of pad crinkles if you slide your feet around, so it's best for beginners.
