It uses very little power no fan and turns off ports not being used.
I have 2 of them and plug in LAN things on one that are on 24/7 and use the other one for LAN things that trun off and on.
The thing bad. It truns off ports but setting it up like this one port is all ways on because it's from the other switch!
So it should know if one port is on then trun it off too and save even more power. Why have one port power on a switch if there is nothing else to talk to.

What I like about this router:
1. I now have an open ethernet port and I don't have to keep swapping ethernet cables.
2. Its Gigabit much faster at loading files compared to the old 10/100 switch this replaces.
3. Low power - well not that I am going to save the planet with a single ethernet switch but every little bit helps.
4. It fits neatly on my desktop and is only a couple inches bigger than the old switch.
5. The old switch is now going with me as a travel switch.

This switch was very easy to install. I just plugged it in to the wall and plugged my cat 5e cables in and it does its job. No hiccups thus far. I have it plugged in to a cable modem and wireless router, computer, and Xbox 360 and have not had any problems with any device. Aesthetically speaking, it is a nice looking piece of hardware for those people who have it sitting on a desk or out in the open. I have mine mounted on the wall in one of my closets. I replaced an old Linksys 100mb 4 port switch with this to get more ports and faster speed. It accomplished both at a very reasonable price when compared to most others.
I don't have specific data for you, but it is definitely speedier in my network. It went in the system easily - plugged and used. It plays well with my DLink router and the other gb switches which are Netgear.
No problems, have used it for a couple weeks now and would certainly recommend.

I have D-Link DGS-2208 8-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch connected with Actiontec HomePlug AV, and routed the remaining ports to Sharp Aquos LC-52XS1U-S, Samsung HT-C6730W, HP Home Theater PC, WD TV Live (all in living room) and Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ (in kitchen). The Desktop Switch is low power, and works reliably since day one (I had it since 2nd week of July 2010). I always have home network and internet connections. I never have to reset the power or network connection.
