Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of D-Link DGS-2208 8-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch

Customer Review: Very good value--seems to run virtually at room temperature!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used this for several years now without incident. I use it with Panasonic powerline devices. I'm far from a netwoking wiz. Nonetheless, this satisfies my needs for such a switch: It's relatively inexpensive as well as eco-friendly, and, it runs incredibly cool compared to many other brands. The housing is plastic: The unit on 24/7, so, remaining very cool is more important to me. I did purchase and install gigabit cards for each PC I attached to the network, however. 10/100 really is legacy now: Certainly, it will work, yet, gigabit is much better. I've had very good luck with this brand over the years....

Customer Review: Great and low price
Summary: 5 Stars

I am using Jumbo Frames 9K with no problems through this switch. Getting transfers over 110MB/sec from Synology DS1010+

I like the status lights showing whic ports are gigabit speed. I actually prefer the layout of this switch for my desktop use; lights in front, ports in back. Please note the layout if you plan to use it in a more "rack mount" style arrangement.

Also, do follow the 5-4-3 rule (wikipedia has it listed as "Ethernet Way versus IEEE Way") if you expect reliable network communications and before posting reviews stating you are having issues with multiple hubs involved.

Customer Review: Couldn't be easier
Summary: 5 Stars

Opened the box, plugged in, turned on: works without any problems. I was very satisfied with how easy installation and setup were. I have several desktops, laptops, and other devices on a wired network now connected to this switch and an SMC firewall/router/print spooler. Everything was up and running in a matter of minutes. Nothing is perfect, though: I had one issue with one laptop trying to print through the spooler. I replaced one of the cables and set MTU on the laptop to 1500 and all was well. I don't attribute this to the DLink switch but instead to bad karma.

Customer Review: D-Link Knows Switches
Summary: 5 Stars

I've owned a lot of networking gear in my days. All brands do some things well, and some things not so well. Some brands even fail miserably at certain tasks.

D-Link knows switches. They make em' cheap, they make em' efficient, and they make it last.

I use this switch in my entertainment center, fed by a Ruckus 7111/7811 beam-forming wireless receiver. It delivers connectivity to my Blu-Ray player, XBox, HTPC, and AppleTV without a hitch.

Wouldn't recommend any other brand for an in expensive ethernet switch.

Customer Review: Best piece of tech gear EVER
Summary: 5 Stars

How often do you get a piece of computer gear that requires NO screwing around? This is it. I got two of these to feed more devices on my home network. Within 2 minutes of opening the box, these are up and running. There's no setup. Just plug an ethernet source cord into one of the jacks, and plug devices to be fed into the others. It figures out which is the source, which are the others, and even compensates for long cable runs. Perfect product. And you might as well pay the $5 more for this one, rather than save a couple of bucks and get 3 fewer jacks.
