Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of CyberPower High-Speed 7-Port USB HubCustomer Review: Great Little Powered Hub Summary: 5 Stars
I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 running XP SP3 and wanted to connect a "WD My Passport Essential" to it. I was using a non-powered hub connecting an HP PSC 2210 all-in-one, a PS/2 keyboard connected by a USB adapter, and a USB mouse. When connecting the external hard drive (to the non-powered hub or to an available USB port) I kept getting a USB port overload message. I ordered my new CyberPower powered hub. I received it sooner than expected. I plugged it in, connected all my peripherals, and connected the hub to one of 2 USB ports. I booted up, then connected the external hard drive - worked like a charm! With 7 ports (and a free USB port on my laptop), I still have room to connect several other peripherals if I want. The hub takes up very little room and has a rubberized bottom to help keep it from slipping around. My only VERY minor complaint is that it has to be unplugged from the power to turn the hub off - it would be nice if it had an on/off switch. By the way, I love the blue light :)
Update: I now use this hub with a Dell Inspiron 1750 running Win 7 64-bit, which only has 3 USB ports. I have my printer plugged directly into one of the ports and the powered hub (with the keyboard and mouse) in another. This leaves 1 free port on my laptop for my new powered external hard drive and 5 free ports on the hub for my camera, non-powered external hard drive, and anything else I need. I still love the hub - and the blue light :)
Customer Review: Nice small package with 7 ports! Summary: 5 Stars
With only two USB ports on the new Macbook air, I was looking for a product that would work with the new Macbook air and snow leapord. The Macbook is attached to a KVM switch and a usb network cable which left no USB ports. I needed to add a samsung SE-SO84D drive. The drive comes with two USB connections for additional power. I was torn purchasing this product as it has only 4 ports and now 3 would already be used, but I really liked the fact that the hub is forward thinking with USB 3.0.
After doing extensive research on the web, the two products I found equally promising were the Syba and the CyberPower High-Speed 7-Port USB Hub. The CyberPower only supports 2.0 USB and lower, but it has seven ports. So I purchased both to do a bit of testing since the cost was low. Both were close in price. Amazon was selling the Syba for $26.99 and free 2 day shipping for prime members - great price.
I have connected the samsung drive and the KVM switch to Syba, and it is working flawlessly. In the end, the Cyberpower is performing just as well as the Syba hub and not surprising since the Mac Book supports only up to USB 2.0. I didn't need the Syba USB 3.0 until sometime in the future, where the additional USB ports on the Cyberpower will be useful now. Both are great products and work well with the Mac, KVM switch and Samsung DVD drive. In the end, if you have a 2.0 USB port, go with the Cyberpower.
Customer Review: Best USB Hub I've used Summary: 5 Stars
I previously purchased a Belkin USB 2.0 Plus Hub (7 Port) F5U307-BRN. The latter device became searingly hot and I was concerned that it might be dangerous. It also seemed to constantly lose connection with the attached devices so that I was constantly hearing the chime sound on my computer as the USB devices came on and off line. I returned it.
My CyberPower hub has had NONE of these issues and I am delighted with it. The vertical orientation is a bit tippy/awkward when "fully loaded" with USB connections, but that's about the only thing I'd complain about, and it's really not a big issue. I highly recommend this device.
I also wanted to add that on my device ALL of the green LEDs are lit whether or not the device is attached to the external power cord. I note the same pattern on one of the uploaded customer images. One reviewer (@Kevin Calman "Otaku", Austin, TX USA) said these green LEDs were power overload indicators and that they were not lit on his device. Not my experience....
The blue LED is pretty "brilliant". I actually unhooked my device from the power cord so that it shuts down when I shut my computer down (and the LEDs turn off). None of my devices required external power, and when left attached to the cord, the hub and its LEDs remain on 24/7. If left on, the LEDs are so bright that I see the glow from my bedroom across the hallway!
Customer Review: It works as it should, right out of the box Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the hub because I have a Maxtor external hard drive that requires two USB ports to power and operate it. When I had that attached to my laptop, I could not use any other device that required USB. I tried using my old Belkin powered hub, but for some reason, the hub wouldn't power up.
There are such horror stories about electronics that I fully expected the Cyberpower Hub not to work. As soon as I got it I plugged it in and connected the Maxtor, my Palm Centro smartphone, two printers and a card reader (I'm a real estate agent and need the card to open lockboxes). Everything worked exactly as it should, and I still have one port left on the Cyberpower and one on my laptop, so I can now charge my Ipod as well. I'm very happy with this product.
Two comments on some of the other reviews:
1. My laptop is old and only has USB 1.1, this hub works fine with it.
2. If the computer is turned off, the Cyberpower hub will still charge your devices, such as smartphones.
I bought the hub through Amazon, used the free supersaver shipping and had it faster than Amazon had promised. If I have any complaint, it is my usual one, that the product had too much packaging. I had to cut through several layers of clear plastic to get the hub out. I highly recommend the Cyberpower hub, which I had never heard of before I read the reviews on Amazon.
Customer Review: Lest we forget the importance of a lifetime warranty Summary: 5 Stars
I did my research for this product before I took the plunge and the one thing that stood out to me was the fact that this USB hub came with a lifetime warranty. All of the other competitors did not offer that as a promissory note to the integrity of their product as did the CyberPower.
Outside of some of the negative reviews that I have seen; one actually saying that it completely fried out their computer, I more-so found several great and informative reviews on this product which further prompted my decision when purchasing it.
I currently use the hub, swapping it between a home PC and a laptop for the purposes of powering external music production hardware and I might add that the transition is seamless and trouble free when doing so. The only problems I experience is having to reload the drivers for some of the hardware, but that was present before the hub was put into the chain.
In the end I cannot speak on others experiences, but where mine is concerned this product lives up to it's claims and has a lifetime warranty if it doesn't perform as promised.
The only thing that burns my skillet about this is the introduction of USB 3.0 and the fact that I will eventually have to replace this to keep up with the ever-changing scape of technology; but isn't that the way it always goes?
