Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cyber Acoustics AC-850 Internet Communication USB Stereo Headset and Boom Mic (Black)Customer Review: Ok, but not great Summary: 3 Stars
I got these hoping to use them for speech recognition, but as I type this using speech recognition, I'm actually using an old clip on microphone that I bought with a Sony Walkman years ago, because it works just as well, and is more comfortable to wear. I find the ear pads too tight to be comfortable to wear, and I did not notice any appreciable improvement in the speech recognition using this headset.
Customer Review: headset USB - NOT for Rosetta Stone! Summary: 3 Stars
Product works normally, but fails to work with the Rosetta stone language software. I found this product on Amazon while looking at a similar product on Rosetta Stone's website. Since it was cheaper on Amazon I bought it there. Caveat Emptor....
Customer Review: fair product Summary: 3 Stars
It was ok at the first time, after a month it started to give some problem
Customer Review: Disappointing for Mac Users Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this cheap headset because it was supposedly compatible with Mac and the language software made by Rosetta Stone. First of all, the headset is cheaply made so if you are planning to use it for anything other than Rosetta Stone, I hope you enjoy lousy sound quality. The ear pads are too small as well so the headset never felt "secure" to me.
I get really sick of things saying they are Mac compatible when they are not. Mac users have had repeated problems with getting this headset to work, despite the BS "troubleshooting sheet" available on Rosetta Stone's website. When you hook these up to your computer, you will be able to HEAR the sound. The microphone, however, will not work with Mac because of a power issue apparently that regardless of what Rosetta Stone or Cyber Acoustics says, is NOT going to give you sound out through the microphone.
Just out of curiosity (and because I do want to use my Rosetta Stone speaking practice), I decided to go to Best Buy and see what could be found for Mac users. The Plantronics Audio 995 Wireless Stereo Headset for gaming works BEAUTIFULLY. Better yet - it is wireless, comfortable to wear, and has great sound quality. You can buy it on Amazon right now for about $50. Cyber Acoustics is a waste of money - put up the extra $20 and get the Plantronics.
Customer Review: Very faint microphone Summary: 2 Stars
When VOIP (Voice Over IP) phones were required for my work I immediately purchased this headset based on the reviews and since it was "recommended" by my work. However after a month of using the headset I noticed a few things:
- the length of the mic boom from the headset to my mouth seems too short
- the mic does not pickup the audio very well. I have to move the mic touching my mouth.
When I put the microphone in front of my mouth it still is very faint in picking up my voice. It appears the only way it can pickup audio is if I literally place the mic against my lip. The audio is then heard but my voice comes across like I'm an airline pilot picking up my breaths inbetween sentences.
However on a positive note it is a very universal USB in that it works on my Mac, PC, and Linux machines. The earpiece volume control works very well along with the inline mute button.
But unfortunately the most important part, the microphone is too faint for good use.
I've since invested in a wireless Platronics CS60-USB headset. The cost is significantly more but it has been well worth it.
