Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Creative Zen 16 GB Portable Media Player (Black)Customer Review: Excellent MP3 player, my favorite so far. Summary: 5 Stars
I have experience with the Sansa e200 series, ipod Nano,, ipod classic, Sansa Clip, and the iRiver H20, and I can say that this is hands down the best MP3 player I've used yet.
It's lightweight and small, but with a large, colorful screen. It has excellent battery life, custom backgrounds, memory card support, and easy to use software to convert video files to the proper format.
The button placement may be a little awkward at first, but it is not hard to get used to. The best thing is the ability to search by letter: when you browse media (especially artists if you have a lot of music on it), you can press the 'right' directional button and move to a list of the letters in the alphabet. As you scroll from 'A' to 'B' and so on, it will move to the artists whose names start with those respective letters, and with a simple press of the 'left' directional button, you can browse through each artist again.
All in all, an excellent alternative to the ipod.
Customer Review: We've got a winner! Summary: 5 Stars
After a couple months of reading every other review in the world on every other flash memory player, I decided on this little guy. The price on the 16gb made the most sense and with the SD slot I had upgrade potential. All the positive qualities listed on the other reviews are for real.
As for some downside, the SD incorporation could use some work. It works as advertised, but it would be quite slick if all of the SD content showed up in the same spot as all of the media stored on the internal memory. Like any other MP3 player, ditch the headphones. Thirty dollars will get you the V-Moda Bass Freqs and they are perfectly paired with the Zen. The Shures and Bose offerings at 100 dollars are great, but these are only a minor step down for nearly a quarter of the price.
There is a button that you can setup as any function you want and after playing around some I found that I liked it most as the random song selection.
I'm awfully happy with my purchase.
Customer Review: Finally what I've been looking for! Summary: 5 Stars
I got my wife an ipod nano but I like this much better. I've been waiting for something that is pretty universal mainly for TV and movies. It plays Amazon Unbox videos and converts TV shows recorded on my PC with Windows Media Center. I haven't tried loading TiVo recordings but that is supposed to work as well. The included software also loads movies I've recorded from DVD's on an old Archos AV300 series. The videos convert to a small file so 16 GB holds more movies and TV shows than you will ever watch on a long trip. I also have hundreds of songs and several Audible books. Nice bookmark feature was also a requirement for me, and unlike Ipod, it supports free audiobook downloads from your public library (although I haven't tried it yet. The software is very intuitive for a PC user. The FM radio sounds great but can't figure out if there is a way to record broadcasts. Unless you plan to buy everything from Itunes I think this is better than an Ipod. Couldn't be more pleased!
Customer Review: Outstanding Summary: 5 Stars
I've spent 5 years searching high and low for the perfect MP3 player, and guess what? This is it.
Great looking player, super easy to setup and navigate, excellent sound, and outstanding price (half a much as a similarly sized iPod or Sony). I didn't buy it to view pictures, videos, or listen to the radio, but those are wonderful bonus features that are nice to have. My only complaint is some of the features were a little hard to find (random play and fast-forwarding, for example) but someone using an iPod for the first time would probably hit the same thing. Also the included headphones are lame, but for $20 you'll be able to get a good replacement.
Although Rhapsody does not have this player on its officially supported list, I was pleasantly surprised to discover it worked just fine with the "To Go" subscription, which means you can download thousands of songs to it for $15/month (just like the Zune). I would recommend this player to anybody.
Customer Review: Two years later, still love it Summary: 5 Stars
I actually have the 8G, which appears not to be around any more. I just noticed that people seem to post reviews right after they get things and it's hard to know how things wear. I reviewed mine early on and wanted to update that it's now 2 years old, battery still works and I'm as happy with it as I was to begin with. Still love the alphabet scroll feature that lets you jump through whole letters of albums at a time and works in both directions (so starting from "A", I can go straight to my "Yoga" playlist by scrolling up). Sound quality of course varies with speakers/headsets but when I hook this to my better speakers or headphones, the sound is really good. Bought it mainly to have a light and portable way to take music to my yoga classes and workshops but I've wound up with other things on it as well and I've added a flash memory card so most of my music is on it. I've used iPods and have a Nokia music express and I much prefer this.
