Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Creative Labs SB0570 PCI Sound Blaster Audigy SE Sound CardCustomer Review: Excelent Budget Card Summary: 5 Stars
For the money, this is a great card. Just as it says, though: It's an upgrade from onboard audio. If you're upgrading another sound card, you might want to go with something a little more beefy, but for the average home user with no need for extreme audio, this is a wonderful sound card.
The only thing that I couldn't get to work was turning on hardware acceleration inside my games. Windows hardware acceleration works fine, but the games don't like to do it with this card. Game audio without that is superb - I have the game's sound channels cranked up and it is crystal clear.
Please note that the BLUE jack on the card is for the microphone, not the red jack. You'll have much less frustration if you know that beforehand. Veteran computer users are accustomed to plugging the mic into the red jack, but the red one here is an output...
Customer Review: Works, works, works! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had my current desktop for a few years now, and the sound recently went. I reinstalled the driver, but no go.
Life without sounds sucks.
I wanted to find a decent sound card without spending too much money; after all, I *don't* use this PC as a multimedia center, so getting something more expensive wouldn't be worthwhile for me.
So I read the reviews for this card, liked a lot of what I saw, and ordered it. I just put it in a few minutes ago (after deleting the old driver, naturally), and...yahoo! Mon dieu, we have sound! :-)
No problems installing, no problems getting Windows (I have XP) to recognize the new card, and the most important thing: Sounds can now be heard!
Maybe it's not true stereo sound or whatever, but this gets the job done, and it's more than worth the price.
Customer Review: Subosi Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this card to replace an external box that quit working after several years of use. I have six speakers and a sub-woofer connected to my computer, so the standard sound card thats installed on the motherboard only allows for one connection. This Sound Blaster Audigy Se card intalls inside my computer so I don't have to tie up a usb slot like I did for the external box. The Sound Blaster card is a whole lot cheaper than the external usb box that it replaced. I am totally satisfied with this card, as it allows me to have true surround sound, and also comes with a program that has a graphic equalizer and allows you to add all different kinds of special sound effects. It is worth every penny and out performs cards that are much more expensive. I am 100% satisfied with its performance and highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Good value for the price! Summary: 5 Stars
Superb. I was using on board sound all these while, until one day I noticed that there is hissing and cracking sound, even when there is no music playing. I saw this $30 Audigy SE, decided to give it a try. Wow, the hissing sound is gone, totally. MP3 sounded 10 times better! Cool. Just like what the box said, it is a good upgrade from on-board sound. I 100% agree. If any one is on a budget, get this and you won't be disappointed.
The only con that I can find is the color coding of the audio jack on the card. It is all messed up. Green for speakers, which is correct. Normally pink is for microphone. Not the case. I spent 1 hour debugging my mic problem, only to find that the pink is output #3, and the blue jack is for line-in/mic. What a joke. Everything else is just superb!
Customer Review: Good sound card at a good price Summary: 5 Stars
This is a good upgrade for someone using the onboard sound on their pc. I installed one of these for a user who was having difficulties with stuttering sound as she watched DVD's, (she is in our marketing dept., and does quality assurance).
The sound delivered via this card, watching DVDs, was excellent.
This is the card that I would buy for myself, (and might have to for my Vista upgrade).
Bottom Line: Much better sound than your onboard audio delivers, good price, and easy to install. NOTE: The software install takes a while and doesn't tell you what's going on. Avoid the urge to think it's done, and reboot. Other than that, a great product and I've installed these on Windows 2000 and XP systems without trouble. Vista, don't know.
