Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Creative Inspire P7800 7.1 Powered Surround Sound Speaker SystemCustomer Review: MORE THAN ADEQUATE FOR AVERAGE USER Summary: 4 Stars
Pros: Sound output is above average for price of system (I got the rebate which made it very attractive). 7.1 System with a Creative Sound Card made for 7.1 (as I have) is quite the match. BE AWARE THAT THE CREATIVE AUDIGY 2 ZS SOUND CARD WHICH IS MADE FOR A 7.1 SYSTEM HAS SOME SERIOUS CONFLICT ISSUES WHILE GAMING THAT MAY HAVE TO BE ADDRESSED BY A PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIAN. Though some list it as a Con, I find the wired remote to be quite convenient with the long cord run behind my desk and the remote in reach near my monitor (volume, bass control, and a headset connection on the remote). Good directions - easy to follow - even a caveman could do it! Supplied stickers allow for tagging designations of speakers.
Cons: I can understand why some might like to see speaker stands included (they aren't). Personally, I don't like more on my desk and preferred hanging them on the wall, so no detriment for me. Biggest Con I have is side speakers do not have adaquate wire length if you plan on having any significant distance. All speakers could probably use a few more feet of wire. I will likely be doing some splicing in the near future on the side speakers. CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOUR SOUND CARD IS 7.1 CAPABLE (Many complain that 2 speakers fail to work after purchase - due to inability of Sound card - not the speakers.
Other Thoughts: Some have reviewed this system as a nightmare to set up. I did not find it difficult and don't understand why anyone would say so. 7 speakers with 7 wires running to a well marked subwoofer for hook-up (read directions for connecting to proper input locations). One reviewer on another site mentioned the power unit getting hot. That had me concerned and have checked on it often. Never more than warm on mine - as expected. Not even close to "hot." I do agree that this is probably not the system for serious music masters (I would expect they would spring for Bose or other super quality speakers), but for those of us who want to do the gaming or just hear a decent music playback in 7.1, this has a good bang for the buck. For a basic and solid 7.1 system without going broke, that has a very good sound, you can't get any better than this for the price! For those reviewers who complain of "cheap" quality, I suggest they spend the $500 - $700 for a "great" 7.1 system. These are definately worth the price.
Customer Review: The best 7.1 system under $100 Summary: 4 Stars
This is probably the best 7.1 system for less than $100. That being said, it's not everyone's perfect match.
If music is your main application, you might be happier with two top-notch speakers than seven decent ones. Your music only comes in two channels, demoting those five extra speakers to mere clones of the first two.
For music aficianados, I recommend Logitech's excellent Z-2300 THX certified 2.1 system (B0002SQ2P2). For about the same $$, you get much better mid-range reproduction, and surrender five unnecessary channels.
If your application is gaming, look no further. In this price range, this is the system for you. Turn down the lights, turn up the speakers, and you are _immersed_. The steady drip-drip-drip of cave water in Neverwinter Nights is far more convincing when it seems to emerge from all around me.
If your application is watching DVDs, you could honestly go either way. Ask yourself which is more important: faithful sound reproduction or immersive experience? For sound quality, take the Logitechs (B0002SQ2P2). For surround sound, take the Creatives. Either way, you'll be happy.
Creative Inspire T7800 7.1 speakers:
Pros:
Lightweight satellites.
5.1 --> 7.1 upmix (for compatability with 5.1 sound cards).
Handy remote control with power, volume, bass adjust, headphone connector, and alternate input.
Slots for hanging the satellites on the walls.
Cons:
Mid-range sound reproduction is watery (though still better than average for a system of this price).
The power switch/volume knob on the remote feels cheap.
Only the 3 front satellites contain both mid-range drivers and high-range tweeters (the side and rear satellites contain only mid-range drivers).
The cable ends are not terminated (bare wires).
The cables are too short to trace around the floorboards to the opposite corner of even a small room.
Despite all of the cons, overall I am very pleased with the Creatives, and I would purchase them again.
Customer Review: Loving it!! (These set has no two-way speakers) Summary: 4 Stars
I just bought this speaker set yesterday to replace my ancient Creative/Cambridge Soundworks 4.1 speakers.
¿One-Way or 2-way?
First of all: they're not 2 way speakers (that means a mid-range driver and a tweeter per speaker) [...]
If you want two-way speakers from Creative choose either Inspire P7900 whose 3 front speakers are two-way or the more expensive GigaWorks S750 in which all 7 speakers are two-way.
Having cleared that here are the pros and cons of hitchhiking:
PROS
- Woofer is 1.5 times as large as Creative's 2.1 models generating louder, deeper bass. Beatiful bass test with Prodigy's "Smack my bitch"
- 2 headphones/line-in jacks one in the volume control and the other on the sub woofer.
- Really nice, sober design in comparison to other creative Speakers and even Logitech's ZX series.
- Colored and appropriately described jacks.
CONS
- All 7 speaker Cables are way too short, suitable only for a very small room or surround-sound-around-your-desk setup
- Amplifier does not filter adequately the higher-bass frequencies to the woofer.
- Speaker cables are permanently attached to the speakers so you can only extend the cables, not replace them.
- Creative speaker stands should be available in Peru!!!
- I would've bought the P7900 if they were available in Peru.
Well in summary:
- it sounds a lot better than my old 4.1 setup
- Easy to setup
- Works beautifully with Creative's Audigy 2 sound card
Customer Review: I'd give it five except you must boost the bass for good RMS effect Summary: 4 Stars
because of my stupid silly neighbors(who complain at my 1/4 volumne) I must only give it 4 stars. It is because if you play at even a quarter volumne you must boost the bass quite a bit to get worthwhile sound in games. Music is terrible but I am using it in conjunction with a Xtreme X-fi and it must be carefully configured for music on Youtube or even a CD using a player like Creative's own. Media player is awful but that is not the fault of these speakers. The price is good(why I did not go down to 3 stars). If you are a casual gamer(and don't like high-end games like "Avencast Rise of the Mages) you will be adequetly provided for your sound needs, if however you play FPS's or other sound oriented games, crank it up and move to the country! voice-over quality is also horrid, w/o bass(and the sub is good) you get no quality at all in anything! You will have to set bass boost or you get shrill and hissy trebles in everything!(with or without "crystalization" enabled in the case of X-fi's drivers) Why even "Bone: Out of Boneville" from Telltale gets a complaint because of "bass" like right, ha!-a little kid's game and the neigh boars complain!
that's the news and I'm stick'n with it!
Customer Review: Good Price and Great Sound Quality Summary: 4 Stars
Pretty Good. I have being using for more than a month. These speakers are excellent even when they are just haphazardly close together. Most kinds of music; jazz, classical, country and the list goes on, sound are exciting. Sounds came in every direction rather than from just 2 speakers. Once the speakers are well placed, the sounds are fascinating. So, it is pretty good set for someone who is looking to spend about a medium range of price on speakers.
The speakers themselves are very good with my system and they also perform very well and bring out the rich environmental sounds. Overall, it is good price and great sound quality.
