Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Creative Fatal1ty Gaming HeadsetCustomer Review: Good Headset Summary: 4 Stars
Excelent sound quality, hear everything sorround like a 5.1 setup. Volume is not loud, it should be a little more louder... beside that is a great product.
Customer Review: better than I thought Summary: 4 Stars
Nice sound for the price, good fit (despite the reviews I read... probably depends on you ears), I like the fact that you can detach the mic.
Customer Review: Decent for the price Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this headset for my son, whose previous headset had broken. His requirements were "over the ear headphones, with a microphone and good sound quality for listening to music as well as gaming and IM."
Out of the box, there was an annoying crackling sound that was quite audible as you moved your head, that was present regardless of whether the phones were actually plugged in. We determined that this was due to some small metal part rattling around inside the closed plastic shell of the left earpiece that we suspect is literally a loose screw. By careful shaking, he's managed to lodge it somewhere inside so that it no longer makes noise as he moves his head, but it frequently has to be redone, and it is annoying that this is required, and we have no idea what is now not secured inside the earpiece. And, of course, because it's closed plastic, it's impossible to disassemble and repair.
His previous pair of sony headphones broke at the (single) earpiece hinge when a small piece of plastic that kept the earcups pointed at one's head broke. These have two hinge contact points on the sides of the earpiece, rather than one at the top, and the whole assembly to the headband is more solidly constructed and more immobile than others I've seen. This construction has another side-effect: the amount you can adjust the fit for comfort is quite limited, and for larger heads, wearing these for any length of time might become quite uncomfortable.
However, other than the loose screw, he's quite happy with them-- the microphone works well, the output sound quality is fine for his needs, and they seem to be much sturdier than his previous set.
Customer Review: Great allround product with minor flaws. Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this product expecting to get high quality audio and the highly praised Mic and i got exactly that! These being the main selling points of the product doesn't disappoint! The audio is loud and crisp! The mic does a fantastic job of filtering external sounds and my friends can now all hear me properly without distortion!
My only gripe with this product in particular is that its not designed for lenghty periods of use and here's why..
1 - The Plush velvet gets pretty hot after wearing it for more than 10m. This heat causes you the user to sweat and that gets really uncomfortable. There is No circulation of air, but i guess its ment to work that way to give you the full quality audio.
2 - I find after lenghty useage,(30m to 1hour) the top of my ear hurts alot! Its because its being pressed agaisnt the inside of the cup and held in that position. There's no freedom an that pain isnt fun :(
Let me add, that i have relativly regular size ear an it doesnt stickout or anything lol.
3 - Though the Mic is detactable.. i would have still liked the option of having it rotateable. Being a MMORPGer, raiding takes alot of time, which requires substinance (food, drink etc..) it makes it hard to eat/drink with the mic beign right next to your face. True u can simply move it out of the way, but i'd prefer it moving completely away from my mouth.
All in all its a great quality product, but comfort quickly becomes a factor. If anyone is looking into buying this quality product, i would suggest you look into the Professional series.
Customer Review: Decent headset for the price, fairly uncomfortable Summary: 3 Stars
This headset is fairly decent; the driver quality is sub-par compared to decent professional headphones, but is acceptable for gaming. The microphone, on the other hand, is astounding -- a *huge* improvement over generic microphones, or cheaper headsets w/ built-in mics.
Two major downsides:
1) The microphone on/off switch induces a loud "click"; if you use these headphones for Ventrillo or TeamSpeak and have auto-detect-voice enabled, your team-mates will hear a click when you turn on/off the mic. Creative could have avoided this by adding literally a one-cent piece of hardware to the on/off circuitry.
2) The biggest downside, in my opinion: the cones which encapsulate your ears, despite being comfortably padded, are a very odd shape -- oval, giving more length than width. If you have ears which even slightly stick out from your head (I'm NOT talking Alfred E. Newman, folks!), these cones will rub up against the sides/edges of your ears. After 5-6 minutes of use, you'll find yourself wanting to take them off.
I can live with the first flaw, but the 2nd is silly; Creative could have made the width of the earpiece 1-2cm wider and made the phones significantly more comfortable for those of us with human-like ears.
