Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Creative Labs Vado HD 720p Pocket Video Camcorder with 8 GB Video Storage and 2x Digital Zoom (Black) OLD MODELCustomer Review: Great little camcorder Summary: 5 Stars
This is great camcorder for the price!
Pros:
1) Cellphone like size, small and sturdy with matte finish (no fingerprints)
2) 2 hours battery life (HD+ mode, longer at lower resolution), user replaceable.
3) 2" screen clear and bright.
4) 8GB built-in memory, don't need to shell out more money for memory.
5) Include HDMI cable and a USB extension cable.
6) Simple and easy control.
7) HD output to HDTV is outstanding.
Cons:
1) Clear rubber sleeve doesn't quite match camcorder's style, it is free though and does provide some protection.
2) Rubber tab on the bottom for the USB connector, looks bad. It is easy to trim off (I did) and you can still pull out the connector without the tab.
3) Sound recording is OK but not stereo.
4) Only 2X digital zoom.
5) Minimal software included.
6) Wish the len doesn't stick out but flush with camcorder just for the look.
For the current sale price this can't be beat. On the go HD camcorder this is very convenient. Great to have it around for quick recording, just keep your hand steady!
Customer Review: Small with a BIG punch! Summary: 5 Stars
I own both the Vado and now the Vado HD. The reason for this purchase was something small and easy to carry. Over the years I have had video cameras and never use them because you don't want to carry them everywhere on your vacation. These devices are awesome when it comes to portability.
As soon as I opened the box I tried it out. I was a bit worried because of some of the reviews but I am relieved that the Vado HD beat my expectations in every way! Light, Compact, Great Quality, Easy to Use!
Keep in mind that you are buying an inexpensive (not cheap) pocket video camera. You are not going to get the high end Sony quality - you get a good picture that you can keep and share. The Vado HD is a step up from the previous version of the Vado - but I am keeping both! When you are out with friends you can hand off the other one and get video from another person perspective (if you are taking video, how often are you IN the video)!
I got this as a "deal of the day" for $129 but I would have paid more. Keep in mind that in 6-8 months something NEW and BETTER will come along!
Customer Review: Great little video camcorder Summary: 5 Stars
After reading the reveiws I ordered this little camcorder over the Flip Mino and am very glad I did. In response to some of the con's: I have not had any problem with the sensitivity of the dials after a few uses of getting use to the feel of them. The construction does appear a little less solid than the Flip Mino, but the Vado comes with a silcone protective case which has solved that problem. I also went to the Creative Labs website and ordered a case, extra battery and battery charger and the AV cables, so I am good to go.
Did I mention the picture quality...it is great for such a little device. Greater than expected and the wider angle is a big plus. The other great thing is how quickly I was able to use it and review my videos on my computer and laptop. I have a PC so none of those MAC issues. I just plugged it in and the software downloaded and was ready to use. It was almost too easy! I would suggest being careful with the USB plug. I can see it could have the potential to break off, but other wise it is a great little video camera for those unexpected video moments.
Customer Review: Greate HD Recorder Summary: 5 Stars
Look, it's a $200 recorder. For $200.00 you get allot of great quality for what you pay for. I got this for Christmas and I'm very happy with it. If you want super super great resolution go buy a regular HD camera and lug it around with you. I have two young children that I have shot loads of footage. Lighting does have an effect on it, but again it's not designed to make a Hollywood movie. It's designed to get those quick shots/memories and get them on the computer. I hooked this up via the supplied HDMI to my plasma TV and I was very happy watching my footage. There is one issue that I found which seems to be pretty common, but not due to the camera. When you have it in HD+ and you play it back on equipment that doesn't support it the Voice and Video are out of sync. Unfortunately I learned this after Christmas but what can you do. I still think this is a great buy for anyone who needs to record footage quickly.
So far so good.. I would buy another one and would highly recommend it to anyone.
Customer Review: Dead simple to use, nice quality - a great little camera! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this Vado based on what I read in various reviews. And while I haven't personally compared this product with its competitors in the market, I *did* test it rather well with any tech gadgets worst enemies - the end users.
I'm quite a bit of a geek so it took me all of a minute and a half to figure out everything about this camera. But the REAL test was handing it ti my wife and then my mother-in-law ...and both figured it out in about 2 minutes.
Also, I didn't bother with the included software - I simply plugged it in and drug the videos over to my computer. -I can't imagine an easier to use video camera.
As far as the quality, I agree with other posts that this is not the camera of choice if you're going to try to win an Oscar. It is, however, exceptional for a home video camera. Low-ish and high-light quality is very good, and while the audio could be better it certainly isn't bad.
I'd highly recommend this camera for any home use.
