Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Creative Labs Vado HD 720p Pocket Video Camcorder with 8 GB Video Storage and 2x Digital Zoom (Black) OLD MODELCustomer Review: Fantastic little camera! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the Vado HD over a year ago and have used it off and on since that time. Mostly just short clips, hanging out with my family. I did take it on a trip overseas and did quite a bit of recording with it, but because I had an older computer the videos never played well, they were always sluggish and choppy. Anyway, fast forward to 2010 when I finally purchased a new computer to replace my outdated 5 year old desktop. I stumbled on my Vado HD last night with all my recorded videos over the past year and let me tell you the video is spectacular. The quality produced by such a small piece of equipment is amazing, and the fact that it's so inexpensive just boggles my mind. The recordings both indoors with low light and outdoors with sunlight is amazing. The sensor manages to pick up on tiny details that my old camcorder would have missed.
For those looking for a "professional" HD camera, you obviously have to look elsewhere. One simply can not pack all the features you need into a camera that will easily fit into your pocket. It does not have optical zoom and the sound recording is less than optimal.
But if you're looking for something small to take with you on vacation or out and about then this little camera will do the trick.
Customer Review: Fun, Easy To Use, Great Value Summary: 5 Stars
This was the first gift I opened this Christmas and I was pleasantly surprised that the included battery was charged so I was able to use it immediately. It was so easy to use that I video'd immediately. Playback on the camera was excellent but the big surprise was when I plugged it into my 42" LCD TV. Who would have believed a tiny, simple video camera could produce such incredible video? Mind you, it's 720p, not 1080i, so it isn't DVD quality, but its darn close! I took it this morning to a family gathering passed it around. It's so easy to use even my great aunt was able to figure it out. Amazingly, it came with an HDMI cable and a USB extension cable. It also has a case, or rather a skin, but I think I'll use that only for traveling. The only negative: it took me a few minutes to figure out how to open the battery case. You have to push a button and lift just so. Also the cover over the HDMI port seems a little flimsy. Small points for such a clever product. Other things I liked: The case has a really nice rubber coating-like feel to it. I also like the replaceable cell phone style battery. (Note - I just discovered it comes with video editing software. Haven't tried it yet, but that is also a nice inclusion.)
Customer Review: Capture life in a click Summary: 5 Stars
This product was pretty much everything that I could hope for. It has portability and the quality that the video comes out is excellent. I love this thing! I always have it in my pocket now. I've had this device since 2/11/2009 and it hasn't once disappoint me. The rubber cover does attract a lot of lint in my pockets, but I don't mind since it was free and it helps protect the device. The video editor that came with the vado isn't much, but it's reliable and hasn't crashed on me like most video editors. (Windows Movie Maker) I do sometimes wish that the menu was a little different, I'm not sure what I am selecting most of the time. You won't find yourself in the menu very often though, so that's not a big concern. The battery life is fairly good, plus you're able to replace the battery. (Unlike the Flip camcorder) It also came with a hdmi cable, which is definitely worth one more gold star in my book. The sound quality is pretty good, you're able to capture most sounds made. It can sound a bit distorted if you yell right next to the mic, but that's understandable. I got a pretty good deal on the vado as well, it was on sale for 130. This was a steal, couldn't be happier.
Customer Review: Great little camera for the price Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
We're having so much fun with our Vado! After nearly 6 months, I've videoed everything from our Disneyworld trip to winter snowstorms and now summer lightning shows. Next month it will be in the tank bag of my motorcycle and traveling across the country with us.
For users with a steady hand, this camera can give you results that rival bigger vid cameras, at a price and size that keeps you from worrying about taking it into dirty, dusty or damp situations.
It's funny, but my favorite thing about the Vado is that it comes from the factory with a silicone skin, this is one accessory that I always purchase for my cameras and phones, and to have one come with the product is the sign of a company that is thinking and willing to try harder.
Small enough to take anywhere, with extremely easy two-button operation that even the technologically challenged will handle with ease, big clear HD video, it's a winner!
Customer Review: Incredible Product! Summary: 5 Stars
As soon as I got my new Creative Vado HD on Christmas Day, I charged it up, and I have been playing with it ever since. I am impressed! Before I decided on the Vado HD, I did a lot of research. I saw the MinoHD a few weeks ago and almost decided on that one, but then I heard about the Vado HD. The Vado HD had quite a few improvements over the MinoHD that I was very interested in. It has double the capacity (2 hours), it has a user replaceable battery, it has a larger screen, and can play the files in HD directly on an HDTV with the included HDMI cable. The 2 hour capacity was all I needed to pick the Vado HD over the MinoHD, and the other improvements were just icing on the cake. The video quality is excellent on the Vado HD and beats my MiniDV camcorder that I payed over $600 for a few years ago. I knew I wasn't going to get Blu-ray quality or anything like that, but the quality was better than I expected. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of other HD camcorders, but most other HD camcorders don't have a $200 price tag. For a pocket-friendly camera that still gives great quality and plenty of space, the Vado HD is the best bang for my buck.
