Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Corsair Flash Survivor 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive CMFUSBSRVR-16GBCustomer Review: Nearly perfect - but watch the rubber rings Summary: 4 Stars
Pros:
+ Rugged
+ Great capacity
+ Fast enough for normal usage
Cons:
- The outside rubber rings
- Minor quality issues with the labels
I bought the unit around Christmas 2007 to replace an old plastic 1GB unit that failed. I carried a flash drive im my pocket so that I always have access to my data, but the old one just wasn't rugged enough to co-mingle with coins and keys.
I purchased this unit specifically because of it's claims to be rugged. In that regard I have not been disappointed. The rubber o-ring on the inside should provide good protection from moisture, but I haven't tried to see if it will float.
I carry the Corsair Flash Survivor on my keyring, which is usually in my pocket. The outside of the aluminum case is showing a little wear from the keys, as I would expect, but drive itself is protected.
I have two issues with the flash drive. First, one of the labels on the drive was not correctly applied in the factory and had to be removed the first week I had it to prevent it from sticking to other items. This alone wouldn't have been enough to lower the rating if it wasn't for the second problem.
The quality and design of the rubber rings on the outside is an issue if you intend to carry this around like I do. Both of them are loose, and the one attached to the flash drive itself spins freely. It has even come detached a few times in my pocket, but so far I haven't lost it.
Overall, this a great product. And if you don't plan to carry it everywhere, you might not experience this issue.
Customer Review: Keep your data safe Summary: 4 Stars
This product is a jumpdrive and does a fine job of that. I like to keep it in my pocket so that I always have access to it. Unfortunately it's a little bulky and also after a few months of wear the rubber grips are comming unglued. I think it's a good trade off though, since the worst thing about jumdrives is their ability to be lost or destroyed. I get the feeling like you could drive a car over this with no issue to its use in a computer. It also has a rubber gasket at the bottom of the screwing threads that may keep it watertight. Also it's bulkiness makes it harder to slip out of sight our from wherever you are carrying it. An extension usb cable is included to help it bulkiness from covering up other USB ports when it is plugged in.
Customer Review: Good product Summary: 4 Stars
It's a flash drive so not much say. It does what it's supposed to and is very well built. I wish it was just a tad smaller, but it's still portable and goes on a key chain. I wanted the 32 GB model but Amazon didn't have it in this size. They had the GTR which is much longer. I use True Crypt on it and that works great. So my data is safe and secure physically and digitally. The only thing I which this had was the ability to put on a key ring on both ends. The photo shows you can do that but when I got it you can only put it one end. I guess they changed it.
Customer Review: Survivor not as sold Summary: 3 Stars
I basically love the flash drive and protective outed shell but take a good look at the picture. It has chain holder holes on each side. Mine came with only one. The biggest problem is that the chain hole on mine is on the side you would want to remove and insert into your computer.
I am very dissapointed that I didn't get what the picture showed I would get.
Customer Review: very very safe flash drive :) Summary: 3 Stars
this flashdrive is awesome
the build quality is so good that i had no trouble demonstrating it to my coworkers by throwing the thing around in a bad way
the speed of the flashdrive is dissapointing though - it is noticeably slower than any of the other ones i own even when freshly reformatted
