Customer Review: Solved my PC random shut down problem and is 850W baby!

With another child on the way I had to move from a room that I was using as an office to the living room downstairs. After the move my gaming PC would just shut down without warning after starting up. I pulled the memory sticks one by one, checked the temp, cleaned out the dust, pulled the USB 2.0 bridge, checked with multiple power outlets - nothing worked. My friend said it's either the CPU, the motherboard or the power supply. So, in a desperate move I went to Best Buy and got this 850W power supply to replace my 500W no name brand APEX AL-B500E power supply. I wish it wasn't an emergency because it cost about $20 more at the store than here on Amazon. However, it solved my problem. I was afraid it was the processor or mobo but now that I have changed the power supply the PC is running and running great.
First off the unit comes in a nice felt bag with band ties and screws. Having an all black case this power supply is black and the many (and I say many!) wires that protrude from the box are lined in a nice black mesh. Installation to the mount took about 3 minutes with 4 screws - done! There is a very thick power cord that comes with this which is what I want to see having this much power running through it. Compared to the 500W that I had before the power cords are like night and day - dental floss and rope! Now, the connections - it took me some time and this unit has more power connections than I could ever want. In fact I band tied a few and tried to tuck them away as they were not even being used. The options are endless. Having a new 24 pin connector on my mother board I was able to connect with ease however if you have a 20 pin you can use this as it is compatible. Also, there is an 8 pin which can be 4 pin if needed depending on how old or new your board is. There are a ton of SATA, IDE, 4 pins, and PCIE connectors. I was able to connect two dvd players, a floppy drive (old school I know), ATI video card, case fans galore, ALL with their own power plug in AND I had some wires left over to band up and tuck away in the case. I will admit cable management in any case is not easy but the main thing here is the power supply is working and working great! I have 850W of power that I will never really need but HAVE! There is a 5 year warranty and a predicted 100,000 hour run time. One last note, the 500W power supply that I had was equipped with an 80mm fan. The Corsair 850 has an 120mm fan. Well that 120mm fan is quite as hell! The old unit I had was louder! I am glad such a large fan is there to cool the insides.
Overall I am very please with this unit. It has been running three days now and i will update this post if I have any future problems. Go buy one!!!!!!!
