All of these 5-star reviews really got my attention when I was shopping for a portable DVD player for a long road trip. I wanted something that would hang from the headrest and entertain my son for hours on end. I'm back from my trip and I can give my whole-hearted recommendation: Coby delivered exactly what I needed. The player is easy to run, has a good picture, comes with everything you need to watch DVDs in the car, the DVDs never skip, you can play it in 16:9 widescreen or in 4:3 TV mode, and the player feels physically tough and rugged. This thing is not going to break anytime soon. There are just a couple of flaws that I might point out: 1) The screen scratches easily. We don't even know how it got scratched but it has a lot of light scratches on it already, so we're shopping for a screen protector. 2) The cassette tape that lets you play the audio through the car speakers didn't work quite right. It would occasionally eject itself from the tape deck. But this problem was easily solved by using our portable CD player's cassette converter, which looks identical to the Coby but works better. So in conclusion, I am very pleased with this Coby DVD player and it was well worth what I paid for it here at Amazon.Customer Review: A Lifesaver On The Road

Driving from Lake Charles, LA to Disney World in Orlando, FL in just two days can be quite a job for the average parents with a young child. This Coby 7" Portable Tablet DVD player was purchased specifically for this long road-trip and came in quite handy. It comes with two headsets, a car charger, home charger with AC adapter, headrest mounting kit, tape deck speaker connector and a remote w/ batteries. The unit works for about two hours on a battery, but can be hooked up at home or in the car to run longer. It has connections to hook it up to most televisions and a "hold" feature that prevents the little ones from messing with the unit while it's in use.
The player is very well built considering that it is made by Coby. I've always considered Coby to be a low-end electronics company, but the positive reviews here on Amazon and some pretty flimsy models at the local stores made this unit my choice. I have to admit that I was a little uneasy making a purchase like this from Coby, but it has more than paid for itself already. With multiple hours of Disney flicks (and one VeggieTales disc), this DVD player has proven itself to be a great buy for anyone.

Thanks to the other reviews on amazon I decided to purchase this player and I'm so glad I listened to what everyone had to say because it's a great player. I bought this DVD player to take with us on a 4 hour flight to Las Vegas and it was awesome! Came with 2 sets of headphones which was perfect since 2 of us were traveling and I was worried I may have to buy a 2nd set separately. The player came completely ready to go out of the box with everything you could possibly want in a portable DVD player including chargers, connections for tv, connections for car etc. Unbelievable what was included for the money. The player sat on the tray table in the plane without a problem and the picture was beautiful and we each could see it and hear without any problems! We were watching Family Guy DVD's and one of the episodes must have been recorded differently then the rest because it was hard to hear the ONE episode but I think it was the DVD and not the player. Didn't have any other problems hearing any other episodes or any other DVD we played. The battery life lasted from Detroit to Las Vegas without a problem. Absolutely the best $129 I've ever spent. I LOVE the fact that this player is a tablet style. I have no idea why someone would buy a "mini laptop" style for use in a car. My child would kick the part that hangs down. And I don't want the player to hang between the 2 front seats.
This comes with the headrest mount and all the plugs. The battery has lasted about 3 hours for us. The unit seems to charge while playing in the car (although the manual doesn't confirm it.)
My one complaint is the placement of the clasps on the mounting kit. You wrap the straps around the headrest and the clips are RIGHT UNDER the front passenger's head. It's not just my car, the clip would land right on the front of the headrest on almost any headrest. So, as a passenger, I just spread the straps apart and carefully position my head between the clips.
The only other complaint would be that it's easy to tip the player over when using the kickstand (out of the car.) Neither of these things rate taking away a star.
I highly recommend this player and the price is great!

This has been a lifesaver when travelling with my 2.5 year old. Just flew from Europe to the US and back, plus a few 6 hour car rides and my child gets carsick too! The Coby tablet is well-designed, it provided great sound even on the airplane (didn't use the headphones), the picture is crystal clear and my kid loved it! He was so entranced, he didn't even remember to throw up in the car. Comes with everything you need, the only thing I thought was strange was that the headphones are tiny, can't imagine them fitting on a normal adult's head. But really can't be beat for the price. Has never skipped, despite bumpy rides, and plays everything I've put in it, DVD +R and -R, NTSC and PAL (though had to be unlocked first with code found on Internet). The other review that says you have to send in the player itself to get an extra battery is inaccurate, you just need to send a money order for $40. Has completely changed the hassles of travelling with a small child, absolutely worth the money.
