Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Coby CVE92 Isolation Stereo Earphones

Customer Review: $20 sound at a $6 price, plus decent noise cancellation and comfortable to wear.
Summary: 5 Stars

It would be unfair to compare these earphones to the some other more expensive earphones I own like Shure E2c Sound Isolating Earphones or Philips SHE9850 In-Ear Headphones with Advanced Acoustics. The Coby earphones cannot reproduce the highs and lows as faithfully as those earphones in the sub $100 range. However, you get good sound for a tiny fraction of the cost of the high end earphones.

Sound Quality:
The Coby earphones compare very favorably to the in earphones in the sub $25 range like Philips SHE9500 Ultra Sound In Ear Headphones or JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds (White). The sound of these Coby earphones is decent, they also have good bass and pretty good noise reduction. The noise reduction is not as great as some of the sub $100 earphones I have used but is good enough for listening on a plane ride. This is probably the best noise reduction you can get in the sub $20 range!

Comfort:
These are one of the more comfortable in ear phones I've owned. The flex rubber sleeves are thinner than usual and fit comfortably in the ear. I can wear them for hours without feeling any discomfort. They also don't fall out which is a big plus. The only in ear headphone that was more comfortable than these is the Philips SE9850 that came with memory foam sleeves that molds to fit your ears.

Make:
The make of these earphones is ok. The cord is quite thin and does have a tendency to tangle a bit. When you get them you have to tear apart the cord as per your preference, there is a little plastic sleeve midway to ensure you don't end up tearing them all the way down. They did seem a bit flimsy to me but in 2 months of use these earphones have held up quite well. And seriously, even if they do get damaged after a few months it will take only $5 to replace them.

Overall:
If you're like me and like to have more than one earphone lying around, this is a great product. After I lost my $100 Shures when they fell out of my pocket, I prefer to take these with me for more active trips. They sound good, don't fall out of my ears and hold up well to moderately rough use...and if I lose them, no big deal...just get a new pair.

Customer Review: Excellent Buds for the Price
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a Nano, my wife has a Shuffle, and we each also have iPhones, and I use these buds. Priced around 5 bucks (give or take) with Amazon Prime free shipping, it's hard to go wrong.

Comfort: For me, these are extremely comfortable. They fit nice and snug, no complaints. They do not fit in my wife's ears and tend to fall out. For the record, my wife has very small ear holes and most of the different ear buds she has tried also fall out (including the default ones that Apple gives you), so take that with a grain of salt.

Sound: The noise cancellation is pretty good for such cheap buds. It's not 100% cancellation, but with these on I can hear myself chewing and it drowns out the noise of a lawnmower or leafblower - not so much that you can't hear car horns and people shouting, but enough to make your music experience more enjoyable.

Quality: They look like they are decent quality (appearance wise), and seem pretty solid in hand.

Durability: In my limited experience with these, the first pair I bought lasted about 6 months. I used them pretty heavily (lots of jogging, workouts, cycling, mowing lawns, train commute, etc). The way I roll is that I wrap the headphones around the iPod/iPhone and stick them in my pocket. After 6 months, I noticed that the connectivity at the base (where they insert into the iPod) started to have issues, they would go on/off with a wiggle. This could very well have been the way I abuse them and not so much the product. I went out and bought two more of them (at 5 bucks each, why not?) and have one tucked away in a drawer for down the road if pair #2 should ever falter.

Negative: The only drawback for me, which is more of a preference thing, is that it has an L-shaped connection, as opposed to a straight connection. This means I tend to swivel the L-piece a bit around on the bottom or top of the gadget - and I prefer the connection that is small and straight, but that's about it. It's certainly not a big enough deal to deter me.

Overall, a very solid product at a low price point. If you are trying to find an extremely durable high quality earbud product that will last for many years, this may not be your option. But if you are like me, and tend to really grind your products with heavy use and would rather buy a few cheap pairs than one fragile expensive pair, then these are your buds.

Customer Review: A long review...
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow. I've tried many headphones, including iPod ones, and this was the BEST deal I have ever gotten. Have you ever tried using your iPod earbuds, and smash them up to your ears and the bass seems really good? Well this is what you get, but BETTER. And best of all, you don't have to smash them into your ear!

I've had these earphones for a day now, and there great. The bass is fantastic, and so is sound quality. Beats iPod earbuds. I got these for 6 dollars, just 6, and they say WAY better then the iPod standard ones. And they cost 30 dollars! I would HIGHLY recommend someone that has a budget on earbuds but wants a REALLY good deal, just get these. Just get them.

As far as sound isolation, I am not sure for buses, but just for your standard home, its great. I put these on, and when I was watching t.v. I had my iPod on, and I was listening to some quiet music and I could not focus on my t.v. It was even on volume 10, which is pretty loud, and I could still not focus on it. These strictly will make you focus on your music, or whatever your trying to listen to on your iPod.

Last thing, for the fit, I don't know about you guys, but it fit me fine. I firstly tried to stick it in straight into my ear though, but it didn't work. So what you have to do is turn it at an angle, put it in your ear, then make it straight. Not a lot of force into it, just give it a little push, and it's in! It stays in your ear, whether your running or walking, because I've tried. Also, the silicone tips look pretty durable, and they stay on well, so don't worry about them breaking anytime soon. Just make sure to avoid putting them in your pocket when you can, so they can last you a while.

Overall, I am VERY pleased with these, these are WAY better then the iPod ones, and I got them for 6 dollars, NEW! And last thing for fits, I tried them on, they were fine, I had my mom and dad try them, they were fine, AND I had my brother try them, and he's 8 years old, and they were great. These will pretty much fit into anyones ears. This is a really good deal, so get it ASAP!!!

This is my review, hope you enjoyed reading it.
Sincerely,
Kevin.

Customer Review: Descent Earphones
Summary: 5 Stars

The Coby CVE92 is an attractive pair of earphones. Its white color will marry harmoniously with devices that are designed in keeping with iPod's classic all-white color motif.

Sound Production
The sound production is definitely not mediocre. In fact, it is surprisingly good for a pair of earphones in this price range. Most earphones in this price range sound a little tinny - not the CVE92 - it actually produces a pretty descent sound.

The audiophile will probably not be terribly impressed however - the frequency response of the Coby CVE92 is somewhat lacking for producing deeper bass sounds. Although it is not listed, I'd venture to guess it probably has a range of 20 Hz (bass response) to 20,000 Hz (treble response) - the frequency response of most of the run-of-the-mill earphones.

Higher quality headphone have better bass response of 12 Hz or less and treble response of 22,000 Hz or more.

Sound-Isolation
Note that these are sound-isolating, not noise-canceling earphones. Noise-canceling earphones work a lot better at sound-isolation. However these cost *considerably* more. The Coby isolates sound by using its soft ear buds - they fit very snugly in your ears to block out external noise.

Comfort
-------
These earphones are extremely comfortable. The ear buds should readily conform to most ears to provide a snug and comfortable fit.

---
The Coby CVE92 is a descent pair of earphones that most music lovers will be pleased with. The noise-isolating feature works reasonably well to block out most of the competing ambient noise. Unless you're a die-hard audiophile, I think you'll be quite happy with these.

Customer Review: Forget the jBuds - buy these!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just posted a review of the jBuds - basically of how they failed after 6 months. The wires inside the headphone plug became "loose" (but would work if you held the wire a certain way) and eventually stopped working altogether. I needed a replacement set of headphones, and was going to buy the jBuds again, but I saw that the Cobys were ranked #1 in earphones and noise-canceling earphones. Though the first review of the Cobys says "Go with the jBuds," I still felt compelled to read the other reviews: I wanted to try the Cobys out.

I am glad I did.

These headphones work just as well as the jBuds, but without the $20 price tag and the different size silicone earbuds (which I lost most of anyway). I've had these headphones for a few weeks - the sound is nice and crisp, the bass is good, and it does an excellent job of noise-canceling. All for the low-low price of six dollars.

Though the jBuds do also get good reviews, a lot of the more recent reviews of the jBuds were less than stellar, and a few people had the same concerns I did about the funky wire problem. If the Cobys break, so what? I can still buy another two pairs for the same amount as one pair of the jBuds. Maybe I'm a little tougher on the headphones (used for walking, working out, commuting) so I don't always store them neatly - and if I shorten their lifespan because of the way I use them, then I'll just keep buying more Cobys.

I highly recommend these headphones. If you're an audiophile and can tell slight differences in audio equipment, maybe these aren't for you. If you're an average joe looking for cheap replacement headphones for your iPod/MP3 player, these are excellent!
