Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Coby CA-747 Dual Position CD/MD/MP3 Cassette AdapterCustomer Review: Excellent product. Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using this Coby CA-747 Cassette Adapter for more than 2 years to use my car stereo to play audio of my DVD-player and CD-player. Until lately, my car tape player kept rejecting it out. I thought it was broken and I was about to buy this same product from Amaonz again. While reading some other people's reviews, I bump into R. Penny's feedback on 10/26/05 about the "skip" mode as following:
"One thing to keep in mind when using any product like this - some (but not all) car tape players have a "skip" mode. When a tape player's "skip" mode is active, it listens for silent portions of the tape. If it is detects any silence for more than a few seconds, it will automatically go into fast forward until it "hears" sound again. If your tape player has a "skip" mode, be sure to cancel this mode - i.e., put the player in "normal" play mode. Otherwise, you will find the tape player trying to "fast forward" over any silent portions of your audio feed."
This is exactly the problem that I was having. By turning off the "skip" mode of the car tape player, my car tape player does not reject the Coby Cassette Adapter anymore.
Again, even if it is indeed broken, I will buy the same product again. Very good product for the money.
Customer Review: One of the best I've seen Summary: 5 Stars
I had first seen one of these on a friend's car and this concept really appealed to me for 2 reasons -
(1) Reuse of a 'thing' (the cassette player)
(2) Quality delivered (fm transmitters suck big time)
This particular one stands out because of negligible noise output and its dual positioning possibility; you don't have to look around for ones that have wires protruding one way or another (dual-positioning). there was a minor clicking noise when i first got it. now that the tape player head has gotten used to this 'pseudo-head' on the tape, the noise is also gone. the volume achievable is very impressive. thankfully, i inherited a very good sound system also. the couple of dollars you spend on this compared to a generic one on meritline is great investment indeed. i was also lucky in that meritline had run out of stock on adapters the day i was shopping. low and high volumes are awesome. the bass and treble are awesome at any volume. this should be your choice if
(1) you have a cassette and fm radio and are rethinking about which technology to adopt
(2) if you have already decided on an adapter and are looking for a brand
As for durability, I really can't comment as I am only a owner for the past 2 months.
Customer Review: Best I've found Summary: 5 Stars
This is the 4th version of these adapters I've tried and none of the others sounded this good. (Sorry I don't have the names of those to avoid, but the last one was bought at Radio Shack) All of the others made considerable clicking/grinding noises as they turned inside the deck. This unit operates much quieter as well as transmits the sound MUCH better. one of the others I tried gave me the trouble swithching sides endlessly back & forth in auto-reverse decks like described in other reviews here. I've not needed to make any modification to this model- it just worked as expected with great sound quality. The coiled cord is nice, and the notch on the end for the cord to bend neatly as it comes out of the deck helps this one feed in completely without getting stuck or triggering the auto eject. I've never bothered to review anything, and this is not an expensive item. But having tried 3 others with such disapointing results I felt others should know this one is at least among the best. I got two more for my wife and daughter, and both experienced the same improvements in thier cars as well.
3 thumbs up!
Customer Review: I ordered another one Summary: 5 Stars
Cassette adapters in the past have generally lasted for a few years for me. My last one conked out on me just a few days ago, after many years (more than 4 I think) of service, and it was no longer outputting all channels (worthless). So I ordered this one. At less than $8, I'm ordering another one! I have two items that do not have alternative inputs: A boombox with CD and a tapedeck, and my car that I bought in 2002, also equipped with both CD and tape.
The sound quality is good. I haven't had it long enough to really put it under scrutiny. Basically, I played the songs that I know the other one was leaving the channel out of to make sure it worked, and that it wasn't my ipod and ipad that somehow both had the same issue at the same exact time ;-) I have not experienced the auto-reverse issue that others have, and the dual direction of the wire is not really a necessity for me, but it is a nice feature.
Overall, great product, be sure to read reviews of others that have had this product longer. I can't comment on longevity...
Customer Review: Works great after simple modification Summary: 5 Stars
It does its job! I use it to hitch my iphone up to my car stereo
The only way I got it to work right was to do the simple modification mentioned a few reviews up. For anyone not completely sure how to do it, here's my own version...
Problem:
Tape players that have an auto-rewind feature (almost all 'modern' players do) get confused with this device in and keep trying to rewind it or spit it out
Solution:
- Remove all the tiny screws on BOTH sides of the device, and carefully pull the two halves apart. Make sure it's laying flat so the gears don't fall out.
- Between the flat white thing covering some small gears, and the three large gears, is a small pea-sized gear that looks like two gears stacked on one another. Remove that.
- With that gear missing, the covered thing will be loose. Tape it all the one in one direction so it isn't loose any more.
- Reassemble everything
