I bought this specifically for keeping my lap-top charged on the road and it works brilliantly, It also does not get overly warm, a concern of my husbands as it sits on the cup console between us. The Cobra CPI 450 Power Inverter was able to power both my daughters' laptops during a 10 hour trip without getting hot, and with no noticable noise. The cooling fan does not turn on until the unit gets warm to the touch. Once the cooling fan turns on, the unit quickly cools off and stays cool.Customer Review: works well and quiet

I was expecting a lot of noise, but was pleasantly surprised by how quiet this inverter is. Very easy to use for two portable DVD players in the back seat. We used this inverter for a road trip from Miami to Tennessee and back. (over 1800 miles). It ran two laptops the whole time with no problems. Fan is not too loud, you can't notice it when the music is playing. Has the automatic shut off features to protect your electronics.Customer Review: great inverter

This is a great inverter. I bought it to replace an older Vector model. The Cobra is quieter than the older one and it's nice that the fan shuts off when there is no power draw on the inverter. The case seems superfluous to me, but then I use it with great frequency.
