The company offering this product is good and they may have other products which may be of great value, but this personal listner is no good. The microphone is of low sensitivity and the other person will have to talk right on the microphone for it to catch the sound waves. Also when the unit is in the pocket and the earphone on the ear, the microphone and the ear speaker resonate and make a loud Coooooo sound. This is not a pratical solution to a person who is really hard of hearing.Customer Review: Not for a long-term Hearing Aid

Purchased this to aid an elderly relative who was very hard of hearing. The extended mic cord is designed (and pitched) as a great way to enjoy TV audio.
After initial charging the unit worked for 1-2 minutes then quit. It came with generic no-name rechargable batteries, so I purchased new set (incl extra for the charger base). Again, same thing only this time it never came back.
The unit has a cheap feel to it; the controls seem insubstantial (power button may have been the problem??). The few seconds it worked it was pretty good, but for someone already hard of hearing, the failures would be extremely frustrating to work out.
NYC Electronics did RMA and refunded my credit card. Curiously, I asked for replacement or refund and they chose refund which leads me to believe I wasn't the only customer having trouble.

This item did not work. It didn't just not work well, it did not work at all. A waste of time and shipping, and a big disappointment to my deaf mother in a nursing home who just wanted to hear her tv.
If I could have given it minus ten stars, I would have. Or a star going nova...you've got the idea. and yes, we tried brand new batteries. The THING IS DEAD. And yes, I returned it.
